    The Omen - WHY?

OK, I went to see the X-men... and sure enough someone thought that a "shot for shot" remake of the Omen would be a scary film....

Who the HECK thought this was a GOOD idea?

I couldn't help but laugh at every scene...

Is it really a shot for shot remake? It seemed like it in the trailer, but I was hoping not.

Glad I'm not the only one who was wondering why they felt the need to remake this one!!

I thought the trailer looked really scary! Of course, I completely admit that I am a total scary movie chicken, it doesn't takemuch to scare me. And I didn't see the original. Did it suck?

The original was a well made film and very suspenseful. I have it on VHS and watched it about a year ago. It also boasted a really first rate cast.

I saw the trailer last week and Mia Farrow in the Billie Whitelaw role seems to be the only real name.

I, too think it's another unnecessary remake. I suppose the special effects will be better. What I've read, it follows the original script closely but is not a scene for scene remake.

    Re: The Omen - WHY?

The original movie was pretty good. And then there were 3 sequels and the 4th movie seems to get played on TV quite a bit compared to the 2nd and 3rd films. I have the first one on DVD. It's part of my Halloween movie collection.

There is one scene in the film that they couldn't get the child actor playing Damian to NOT smile...he just grinned. However in the context of the scene, it was a creepy, evil smile...so they decided to keep it in. It works very well.

That is simular to the problem here...

    1. There doesn't seem to be any interesting special effects to bolster the action that for the most part is pretty quiet... which is just like the original film...

The only thing added was people with demonic masks...

I mean, Ghost Rider - the Nicholas Cage vehicle that had a trailer running with the Omen looked like a much scarier and more demonic film...

    2. The Omen looks like a shot for shot copy of the original with the same budget only with updated clothing and a new cast...

Why do this? I mean really, why not make a new omen with a new interpretation of the movie score...

    3. It is difficult for a movie to build suspense when there is no music in the back ground and you know, shot for shot what is going to happen... I mean, I want the movie to be differant so bad, I want to cheer on Damien... "Go Damien... Go..."

I hope upon hope the Omen BOMBS, or at the very least is laughed at...

Why is anyone surprised. We live in the age of unnecessary remakes and bad movies based on old TV shows. It's not hard to come up with 5 off the top of your head.

Why are two actors from the Harry Potter films in this movie. Waste of good actors.
