    Question So....Where's the Tony Thread?

You're telling me I'm the only one watching the Tony's tonight?

    Re: So....Where's the Tony Thread?

I watched the beginning and the ending. Our friends asked us over for a roaring game of Phase 10 in the middle. I hadn't heard of most of the shows.

Will trade husband for Disneyland and DCA Pins!

oh, oh! I watch it! It was okay, but I wasn't really blown away by any of the performances. Some were very good, but that's just my opinion.

Pretty slow so far. I heard some nastiness from Three Penny Opera a few minutes ago, but the Harry Connick Jr. Pajama Game thing was pretty cool.

I usually try to watch every year to see what the new musicals are like. Wicked, Spamalot, Hairspray...I think I saw a bit of all of those for the first time on the Tony's.

But...could they be a BIT more emotional when receiving their awards?

Oh I enjoyed it. The color purple looks amazing, such incredible music, and she won best leading actress, and she showed emotion.. YAY!

I love the Tony's!!! I was not impressed by the Sweeney Todd revival. I actually did that show in its heyday, the canticle between the Judge, Mrs., Sweeney, Toby, and Joanna! oh my word!! and now eh. Patty Lupone is NO Angela Landsbury. Its gotten ok reviews. I'm not a fan. Feh.

What I am REALLY needing to see is ThreePenny Opera with the current cast!

Neither Vic nor I cared much for this year's awards show. It seemed rushed and shallow. This year's crop of shows was... OK, I guess.

I was really struck by Hal Prince's accomplishments. He really deserved that lifetime achievement award. But WHAT happened during that Phantom tribute? The Phantom and the orchestra were at different parts of the song?!?!

I watched them. I am thinking I want to see The Pajama Game and The Color Purple.

This time at least The Color Purple broke the curse. The film was nominated for 11 Academy Awards and won zero. The musical was nominated for 10 Tony's and won one... LaChanze for Best Actress in a Musical. I really enjoyed the book and the film...and so far the musical looks like something I'd enjoy too.

I watched! Wasn't quite as blown away by anything as I have been in the past, but I did like the numbers from The Wedding Singer and The Color Purple.

I watched. The performances were cool. I like the whole premise to The Drowsey Chaporone. I was so happy for LaChanze. She was so emotional. I wish I could go see a broadway show. I'd love to see Sweeney Todd. The part they preformed last night really did no justice to the show itself. I've seen a local production of it which was really good.

    Re: So....Where's the Tony Thread?

Keeping in mind that I haven't seen these shows yet, I was leaning more towards "The Color Purple." It seems emotionally powerful and I am assuming it has an original score.

The Jersey Boys, unless I misunderstood, is about Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. If it features pop music that is already out there,(Mama mia, etc) it doesn't seem fair to compare it to a new musical with an original score. Apples and oranges, if you ask me.
