I love the Tony's!!! I was not impressed by the Sweeney Todd revival. I actually did that show in its heyday, the canticle between the Judge, Mrs., Sweeney, Toby, and Joanna! oh my word!! and now eh. Patty Lupone is NO Angela Landsbury. Its gotten ok reviews. I'm not a fan. Feh.
What I am REALLY needing to see is ThreePenny Opera with the current cast!

I was really struck by Hal Prince's accomplishments. He really deserved that lifetime achievement award. But WHAT happened during that Phantom tribute? The Phantom and the orchestra were at different parts of the song?!?!
I watched them. I am thinking I want to see The Pajama Game and The Color Purple.
This time at least The Color Purple broke the curse. The film was nominated for 11 Academy Awards and won zero. The musical was nominated for 10 Tony's and won one... LaChanze for Best Actress in a Musical. I really enjoyed the book and the film...and so far the musical looks like something I'd enjoy too.
Amanda Just remember without a well written Disney Villain, there would be no point in the Heroes and the Princesses. Have you hugged a Disney Villain today?
I watched. The performances were cool. I like the whole premise to The Drowsey Chaporone. I was so happy for LaChanze. She was so emotional. I wish I could go see a broadway show. I'd love to see Sweeney Todd. The part they preformed last night really did no justice to the show itself. I've seen a local production of it which was really good.
Keeping in mind that I haven't seen these shows yet, I was leaning more towards "The Color Purple." It seems emotionally powerful and I am assuming it has an original score.
The Jersey Boys, unless I misunderstood, is about Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. If it features pop music that is already out there,(Mama mia, etc) it doesn't seem fair to compare it to a new musical with an original score. Apples and oranges, if you ask me.
