    Classic Mickey Ice Cream Maker???

I was looking through the DisneyOutlet.com site just to browse around and see what products they have, and I came across the Classic Mickey Ice Cream Maker. It looks like a cool little device. But then I came to the bottom at it says "WARNING: This product contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer, or birth defects or other reproductive harm." WHAT????? Why would The Disney Company sell something like this. The products link is http://disneyshopping.go.com/DSSecti...duct_Id=190617

    Go look for yourself!!!!

You should make a print out of the link and send it to Jay Leno. He might put it up on his Headlines segment.

Why would that chemical cause cancer only in California?? Is it safe to use here in Wisconsin, but not California?

Actually this type of label is very common in California, and really means next to nothing.

About 20 years ago, California Proposition 65, which created a list of chemicals known to cause cancer, and required extensive labeling to warn people about it (http://www.oehha.ca.gov/prop65.html). The problem is that these chemicals are extremely common in every day life, and the law requires reporting their presence, even if they're not found in amounts known to be toxic.

For example, if you need say, 1,000,000mg of a certain substance to be a carcinogen, Prop65 requires reporting that substance's presence even if there is only 5mg of it in the product. Here's a good example of how ridiculous this reporting is.... my former apartment had a big Prop 65 label on the kitchen counter because the laminate counter top contained a chemical on the Prop 65 list. Now my counter top wasn't cancer-causing (they wouldn't sell it if it was, that would be illegal), but the ugly label was required by law to be there.

Sooooo.... enjoy your ice cream maker, I'm sure you won't get cancer from it.

I have seen those labels on many items over the past 5 years. Especially on holiday decorations.

Prop 65 sounds like a total waste of the paper it was written on. Probably pushed through by top execs at label printing companies.

It's only $35! That's actually a pretty good price for cancer.

Downtown Disney itself has a Prop. 65 warning on one of the Monorail Beams outside the station.

I was just going to say this. I laughed so hard when I saw it.

But yeah, that warning is everywhere in California. Almost every restaruant I went to last summer had the warning somewhere on the menu.
