Okay, so I was planning on being annoying to all you North Americans by posting my review of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest a day before any of you get to see it because it comes out a day earlier here in the UK, but lo and behold my dad (who I promised I would go and see it with) cannot make it to the cinema on Thursday due to work and is going out on Friday so in fact you guys can all annoy me because I get to see it on Saturday a day after you guys can. But anyway. I thought it would be sensible and forgiving to the moderators to collaborate all reviews of the movie into one thread.

Rotten Tomatoes has 13 fresh reviews, and 6 rotten reviews so far. Giving the movie a 68%. That's fresh, but not as fresh as I'd hoped. But of course, there is only 19 reviews so far so who knows what might happen.

Metacritic has 6 reviews posted this morning 7/5 and the overall score is 52%. I'd bet this is going to be a critic-proof film.

True, I bet it will be critic-proof also. Ouch, Rottentomatoes dropped to 58% in the last few hours. (they consider that rotten) 24 reviews, 14 fresh, 10 rotten. And so far all 3 cream of the crop reviews are bad. But who cares about the critics, everyone will see it anyway.

Okay. Just got back.

That was, quite plainly, the best film I have seen since at least the first one.
Splash literally had to stop me clapping at the end.
Jesus Christ, I still haven't gotten over how good it was.

Plenty of attraction nods - I was surprised at how well done the drowning mayor scene was. The dog with the keys was all over the place though!

I can understand the reports about how Jack is unlikeable in the film. I really didn't like him when I came out of the theater, but I still love him deep down because I know he will pull through in Movie 3. I can't blame the writers though because if he didn't do what he did, the movie would be entirely different.

Tia Dalma was especially good, and Splash also told me that that scene was a nod to the Blue Bayou - I haven't visited Disneyland CA so I wouldn't know. Davy Jones was too realistic - I really couldn't tell if it was amazing CG or amazing AA!

But the best part of the film for me - the one that Splash had to stop me clapping for - was right at the very end. Jack is in the Kraken's belly, and Tia Dalma has challenged his remaining crew (Elizabeth, Will, the two quirky pirates and Master Gibbs) to retrieve Jack (they must go to the World's End - I think the third film's title was just confirmed). The gang are all up to Tia's challenge, and then Tia says they need a new captain for this mission. The only captain being suitable... Captain Barbossa, all brand spanking new and clean! I nearly had a heart attack. That was the best bit of the film when Barbossa appeared.

As I said to Splash - I loved Barbossa as a baddie, but he is even better as a goodie!

You must go and see this film. You MUST!

It was an amazing film, and yes, I literally had to stop Speedway from clapping at the end of it (he would not stop). Can't say much more then go see it! It's amazing!

Great homages to the ride imbedded as well, you wouldn't notice them if you weren't a disney geek.

In a deleted scene, there was a nod to the mayor dunking in the first one...

As for this movie, although I'm ignoring it, it's come under a lot of fire from critics so far. Then again, most of these critics are the same ones who hated the first one.

And I don't listen to critics anyways.

They are going to do the same thing they did with Cars. These are Disney's big movies, and the critics can't help but trash them. I will see for myslef.

I just got home from watching the midnight showing of the new Pirates movie and I can sum it all up in just one word....

AWESOME!!!!!!

The movie far exceeded my expectations and I believe it is TWICE as good as the first Pirates movie. Twice the action, twice the comedy and triple the fun. I knew they were already working on a third Pirates film so it was no suprise that this movie would end at a cliffhanger, which it did. I'm not going to spoil it for those of you who have yet to see it but I will say that you will be anxiously awaiting the third film.
