Re: The Ducks Are No Longer "Mighty", and their "Pond" will soon be gone...

We get Prongs and Nieds on the same team and you call that a weakness? I call that hard-hitting hockey!

The roller hockey uniforms are another story

Think I'll try and pick me up some purple pants at the equipment sale next weekend.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

If the corporation must be mentioned, they should keep the nuetral, well-known name and simply at the sponsor to it. (ex.. The Thunder Dome becomes Tropicana Thunder Dome as opposed to Tropicana Field)
Yes! And the corporate naming of bowl games in the winter, too. I still have a hard time wrapping my mind around the "Tostitos Fiesta Bowl" or the "FedEx Orange Bowl"

I find the corporate naming of athletic parks revolting. I hate it. Not to mention the constant change of sponsor.

Just give it a darn name and leave it alone.

The theater where I work is now the "Countrywide Civic Arts Plaza" and I hate that too.

Somehow, I don't think that the schools involved getting bezillion dollar payouts for the exploits of their "student-athletes " mind the sponsorships...like it or not (and as I said, I don't) it's all about the benjamins...

Even Wrigley Field? Doesn't that go back nearly 100 years?

Point taken, albeit a fine point since the park was not named after the chewing gum company per se, but for its owner, and the Cubs owner Phillip Wrigley. (He also built a park in Los Angeles by the same name, where the Cubs had a minor league team in the Pacific Coast League at the time.) It turned out to be the first home of the American League Angels, and the place where those campy old classic "Home Run Derby" shows were filmed.
