    Disney to raise prices for second time this year
    by Scott Powers

    Walt Disney World said today it is increasing its base ticket price to $67 Sunday, the second price increase this year.

    Disney officials did not say what is prompting the $4 increase -- which also affects prices across the board in the company's "Magic Your Way" flexible ticket plans -- except to say the new price is in line with the needs of the travel industry.

    doesnt surprise me. this is just the beginning. pretty soon it will cost 100 a day to go to a park. between wage increases, and energy prices increasing across the board, it's only a matter of time.

    Heck, LEGOLAND in California just raised adult prices $4 to $57 for a day...

    At least there is no ticket tax in California, unlike Florida......

    I can see $67 for a Disney park, but $57 for Legoland???

    When your park is generally open only from 10 - 6, you shouldn't be charging $57.

    Also, don't forget, the actual price of the ticket is now over $71 when you add the $4 and change tax (It was $4.10 on the old $63 price)

    Here is a much more detailed story from Sunday's Orlando Sentinel

    http://www.orlandosentinel.com/busin...dlines-tourism

    Starting Sunday, the cost of a one-day ticket to any of Walt Disney World's four parks is going up to $67 -- a 6.3 percent increase, the largest since 1991.

    The hike is the second time in eight months the resort has bumped the cost of admission and represents an increase of almost 12 percent since December and 22 percent since early 2004.

    Disney officials did not say what is prompting the $4 increase -- which also affects the company's Magic Your Way flexible ticket plans -- except to say the new price is in line with the needs of the travel industry.

    The latest decision surprised a few industry observers and rattled some tourists Friday, but all said it would not deter people from visiting the parks.

    Addison Williams, 68, of Atlanta said the prices were getting out of hand, especially for a family. The retiree, on vacation with nine family members and friends, said he was thankful he wasn't paying for everyone.

    "I know it's a family theme park, but a family has to practically take out a loan to come here," Williams said as he paused during a shopping trip to International Drive.

    Bummer. I bet they go up at DLR too. I was budgeting to upgrade my SC passes to deluxe or premium. Hope I can still afford it?

    get used to it as energy prices go up and stay up everything will eventually go up as well. and with the florida minimum wage indexed to inflation, it's simply a vicious cycle. I give it five years before the price will be close to 100 dollars a ticket unless things change drastically and by then they will have to or theme parks won't be able to exist.

    DB, When do park-hopper passes expire without the no-expiration option?

    Nevermind. Found it "14 days after first use."

    Just trying to see what the Annual Pass is worth.

    So,
    1. $216 for a 10-day pass;
    2. Less $17 discount ($199 subtotal);
    3. Plus $45 parkhopper ($244 subtotal);
    4. Plus $155 No expiration ($399 subtotal)
    So, $40 per day is the least rate that would be equivalent to having an Annual Pass for an adult.

    AP is $434, so the AP is equivalent to about 11 days.

    Question: why is the Florida PAP ($445) more expensive than the not-Florida AP ($424)? Taxes? Penalty for expected extra use?

    Well, looks like unless I win the lotto, I won't be going to WDW again for a long time after this year... unless they do another FL resident 3 or 4 day pass option again (which is what I got this time).

    Ah. Thank you. So, what's the difference between a regular AP and a PAP? Water parks?

    (And I have to do all my math over....)

    Reason for increase in prices... It's kinda obvious:

    Inflation due to price of Oil... WDW burns a lot of that stuff... Trust me, that cost isn't going to come out of Iger's pay check...

    I still think there is a threshold at which the public stops paying. And when that threshold is reached, boom. Attendance drops 25% for the year.

    Has it been reached yet? We'll find out...
