Smile The Black Pearl, up close.

So we were out sailing yesterday and were able to get some up-close photos of the Black Pearl. See the link bellow each image for extra large photos. Enjoy.

It looks so light colored in your pictures. Not the dark black I thought it should be.

Anyone know what the technical term is for the "maiden" they used to put on ships like this?

Re: The Black Pearl, up close.

When my small group went and saw her when she first sailed into San Pedro, they were doing a lot of re-furb on her. A small (ok, actually fair-sized) piece around one of the sail riggings fell off and floated to where we were... so now, I have a piece of the Pearl (which is off getting framed as we speak)

And, "NO!!!!!" to all of you who are already thinking it...no we did NOT "help" that piece fall off.. it fell off while they were working it..and the current took over. Seriously, really...on it's own

When we went back again.. no more such luck LOL

But LOVE those pics...Thanks for sharing

Also, did you notice that she has a bird (specifically a Swallow) in her hands? That was pointed out to me during the first film.

San Pedro huh? Why do they keep switching locations? We went and saw it in King Harbor in redondo beach. I also have some pics that i took from my house on the Palos Verdes Penisula.

A girlfriend was at the beach with the family when it can around the PV cliffs before docking by Joe's crab shack. I saw it the week before sailing along the PV cliffs. I have seen it before and didn't think it was a big deal. I forgot that I have young fans of POC in our family. So when I go the call from Pixie chick that it was dock then couldn't wait to get there. We were on our way in to a movie and it was hard to get them to stay. They were very happy and I have been ordered to inform them of all celebrity sightings or filming of movies.

It always amazes me the expense and trouble filmmakers go through to make their films. Back in the day they might have built a small part of that on a soundstage somewhere, and maybe they'd have a miniature that they use for wide shots. Now they actually build an entire freakin' ship! (assuming it was built specifically for the movie)
