I really want to see Million Dollar Baby... I've never heard such fawning over a film like I have over this.. and it's been that way for months now. It seems like every time you turn the tv on, someone is talking about how amazing the film is and how it's sure to get the Oscar. But as is the usual, I haven't seen most of the movies nominated.

As for Animation... Incredibles all the way baby!

So out of the list I've seen:

    The Incredibles
    Shrek 2

    Sad isnít it?

I'm surprised Mel Gibsonís movie isnít on the list. I didnít care for it but, still surprised it didnít get nominated.

Nor sleet, nor rain... nor hacking cough and going to bed at 3 AM could keep me from waking up to watch the Oscar nominations!

The Academy hates controversy... so I can see how there wasn't a best picture nod for either Fahrenheit 9/11 nor Passion. Usually if they don't want flack but want to acknowledge a film, they give Best Director. It's a shame Mel wasn't given his props in that category.

Michael Moore submitted F9/11 for the Best Picture category and not the Documentary category (Click this to see full article).

Okay, my picks from the list:

Among the major catagories, the nominees are....

    BEST PICTURE

    SIDEWAYS

Haven't seen Million Dollar Baby yet, and I've decided to NOT see Ray and The Aviator....I've gotten bored by the biopics....and is it blasphemous to say I didn't care for Ray Charles? And also, I was raised going to see the freaking Spruce Goose every chance my parents got, so I have a thing against Howard Hughes.....and on TOP of that? My brother-in-law was in charge of building the new building here in Oregon that houses the damn thing. That plane!!! Can't get away from it!!!

    ANIMATED FEATURE FILM

    THE INCREDIBLES

    ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE

    Don Cheadle - HOTEL RWANDA

Amazing performance!!! Yay! Though I'm sad that Paul Giamatti isn't here...he was soooo good in Sideways. Plan to see Clint in Million $ Baby still.

    ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE

    Annette Bening - BEING JULIA
Catalina Sandino Moreno - MARIA FULL OF GRACE
    Imelda Staunton - VERA DRAKE
Hilary Swank - MILLION DOLLAR BABY
Kate Winslet - ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND

    I have no clue....

    ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE

    Clive Owen - CLOSER

I'm torn between Clive and Thomas Haden Church, actually....

    ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE

    Sophie Okonedo - HOTEL RWANDA

    No comparison! She was excellent!!

    DIRECTING

    THE AVIATOR
    MILLION DOLLAR BABY
    RAY
    SIDEWAYS
    VERA DRAKE

    Can't say.....

    DOCUMENTARY FEATURE

    SUPER SIZE ME

Okay, so this is the only one I saw in this category......

    WRITING (ADAPTED SCREENPLAY)

    SIDEWAYS

I really really loved Sideways.....can you tell? I've got the book on hold at the library. I'm looking forward to making comparisons.

    WRITING (ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY)

ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND

    Cool story, well written, perfect.

I'm really looking forward to The Sea Inside. Oh my. And it's nominated for Best Foreign Language Film. Good news!

Sideways for best picture, Shrek 2 for animated picture, and Eternal Sunshine for best original screenplay. That's all I got.

We are in the same boat Disguy. What is even sadder is that my kids have seen more of the nominated pictures than I have. (My dad & step-mom took them to see A Shark Tale.)

My brother is quite excited about Million Dollar Baby garnering so many nominations. He knew ahead of time that the guy he works for was not going to be nominated for the Sound Effects Editing for MDB. They came really close with Space Cowboys a few years ago, but they were beat out by U-571.
Anything listed on the park maps as an attraction is fair game for inclusion in the Rally.
I cannot confirm nor deny the inclusion of any attraction in the Rally.

Do you guys think anyone was left off the list?

I feel that Paul Giamatti was sadly overlooked

Well as far as Best Picture goes, I'd like to see Million Dollar Baby and Return to Neverland. However I must watch Grease before anything else or I may suffer great punishment from others.

I am sad that Kinsey only got one nod (Laura Linney - who was great) but Liam deserved a nomnation and I also felt it was a slightly better film than Finding Neverland (which I am glad got lots of attention).

The only category that I have seen all of the films (so far) is Animated Feature. Did I mention I don't have children? I sure hope THe Incredibles get the award there. Shreck was ok, but not as fresh as the first and Shark Tale was painfully awful.

I really thought Sideways had a better shot at more awards. It is SUCH an industry-appealing film. I haven't seen The Aviator or Million Dollar Baby - don't really want to - bit I guess I will now. rags feet:

    Nominated for:
    Best Cinematography
    Original Score
    Make Up

As I look over that list....more and more I'm bothered by this. I thought Paul Giamatti was better in Sideways than Johnny Depp was in Finding Neverland.

I'm underwhelmed by the song choices....I'd have to pick Accidentally In Love for Shrek 2. The scores actually did nothing for me.

I'm hoping that A Very Long Engagement wins cinematography or art direction....it was just so incredibly beautiful to look at. Even when it was a scene that was hard to watch. It's a movie that I must own someday. The other foreign language movies must really be something if this didn't get a nomination!! Also, very surprised that Bad Education didn't make the cut....or Motorcycle Diaries.
