Smile Brother Bear 2 ---- wow, ummm... nice try

I only saw Brother Bear last week and only watched it because my daughter insisted and we did see the cute live show in DCA a few months back. I was impressed. Nice animation, nice (ok) music, good tension and dramatic moments.....

The two Moose, well, being Canadxian and growing up with Bob and Doug Mackenzie.... I loved that.

Brother Bear part 2 --- what were they thinking!!!!

    1. How many First Nations People's were totally offended that they characterized the Shaman as a wierd old witch who sounded like Whoopi Goldberg on a bender! Totally stereotypical afroamerican slang in a character that was center to a tribe. What was wrong with just bringing back the first Shaman. How Strange.

    2. Is Phil Collins on Speeddial -- we need him now. The music in this show was hideous. I can hear the people in the soundroom" Ok, like just throw the chords together...ok... ok... slower....ok....like now say anything at all that comes to mind about nature. Maybe some rocks and stuff. If we need it, I'll put in some more cowbell."

    3. The two dumb and somewhat entierly useless characters of the two sisters were horrible. First I thought, "Why do these women who are First Nations look so Jewish? Seriously -- check it out! They should have been animating Fiddler On The Roof! Second, why are they so dumb. Insultingly dumb. And the allusions to the Fairies in Sleeping Beauty was not cleaver but rather it looked like they ran out of ideas.

    4. Did someone forget that these people were First Nations? Why does the lead woman change from Pocohantis to Yoko Ono? Again... just watch it....

    5. Why does every single person in the tribe forget that he is the brother, the bear I mean... The Brother Bear. Why is no one paying attention that EVERYONE KNOWS THAT SHE WAS ENGAGED TO A MAN WHO BECAME A BEAR..... oh hell, this one is so obvious it hurts to type it.

Put this one back in the vault, hurry.

I'd say the Sha(wo)man sounded more like Wanda Sykes. I'm going to guess that probably as many people that were offended by Mushu having the same "stereotypical afroamerican slang" and personality traits will be offended by her.

I agree though the main character seemed to be a confused melding of Mulan with a sprinkling of Pocahontas.

And I think this is the wrong forum.

With all this talk of "off the shelf" and "on the back-burner" it seems the only thing that DCA is really missing is the kitchen sink!

I didn't care for the original, so chances are I will never see this. And that's fine with me.

I loved the first one - and Rutt and Tuke - Priceless!!!! I'm sad to hear that the sequel wasn't so good - does it at least have the extra of Rutt and Tuke doing an MST3000 and reviewing the whole movie like the first one??!!

Will trade husband for Disneyland and DCA Pins!

Well, I haven't watched BB2 but I know my two younger daughters absolutely LOVE it. They have watched it several times now, already. I feel the need to watch it but I didn't really care for the first one, I found it boring, so who knows when I'll force myself to watch this one.

When will people STOP BUYING Disney direct to video CHEAPQUELS. Folks the warning is clearly on the package when it has a number next to the title.

The original Brother Bear, though pretty to look at was not all that great to start out with.

Disney, for the love of Walt... Please stop it with the sequels! Use that budget and people for new (and potentially classic) high quality films!

I have not seen any of the sequels of any of the Disney animated sequels. The trailers I have seen on most of them was a good enough warning that they would be bombs. The reviews of people that has seen them only confirmed my suspicions.
Walt himself did not believe in making sequels. He felt they only detracted from the original and I have to say he was right !!.

Why is this in the Disneyland Resort thread? This involves a Disney movie, so it should be in the "Disney business" non park related thread, no?

Re: Brother Bear 2 ---- wow, ummm... nice try

I agree 100 percent with everyone regarding the terrible sequels. I was working at The Disney Store when "The Return of Jafar" came out. After watching it in the back room one night after the mall closed, all the cast members vowed to never, ever, buy or watch another sequel again. It was a nightmare.

Anyone remember the awful mess of Cindy 2, or the heartless doggie doo-doo of Lady/Tramp 2? Do you realize that Dumbo 2 was suppose to come out many years ago, but it was such a mess that it was postponed indefinately?

The one sequel I could actually watch without cringing was Bambi 2, but I'll never watch it again.

Big question (not regarding sequels): When will the animators start creating "Disney Stories" and leave the looney Warner Bros. rip offs to, well, Warner Bros??????

I'm putting my bets on Glen Keane's "Rupunzel" movie coming out in a few years. If he can put a heart and soul into a royal, selfish beast, hopefully he will bring back that Disney magic again...

May you be surrounded by your pals this holiday season!

Perhaps we need a new forum: "NOT Entertainment"!

Bro-Bear was created with sequels in mind. Three "singles" = a triple, supposedly. No need to work hard for that one great, timeless Classic every other year, since in this day and age, the company can't make profits on Classics once the DVD's been released. Better to go cheap and frequent.
Ah, Those were The Eisner Days.
