Usually three types of movies appear on these lists:

    1) Movies that are truly terrible in every respect (Manos: Hands of Fate)
    2) Movies that actually do have an interesting idea but awful execution (Star Trek V)
    3) Movies that aren't actually terrible, but rather terribly disappointing (The Phantom Menace)

So, in reality, there are WAY worse movies out there than Star Wars 1,2 and Matrix 2,3, but these films are at the top of the list for most disappointing films of all time. To me, that's a different list (and none of those were as disappointing to me as they were to the general audiences).

Anyway, some truly awful, awful movies in nearly every respect are:

    Manos: Hands of Fate
    Batman and Robin
    Santa Claus Conquers the Martians
    The Return of Jafar
    Alien: Resurrection
    The Avengers
    Cabin Boy
    Casino Royale
    Drop Dead Fred
    Here on Earth
    Impostor
    Jury Duty
    Mortal Kombat: Annihilation
    The Organization
    The Pallbearer
    The Perfect Storm
    Robin Hood (1973)
    The Shadow
    The Skulls
Superman IV: The Quest for Peace
    Teen Wolf Too
    They Call Me MISTER Tibbs!
    Topaz
    Weekend at Bernie's
    Armageddon

The Star Wars Prequels and the Matrix Sequels mop the floor with these films.

I gotta agree with everyone who's said "Manos: The Hands of Fate." That was the first one that came to mind for me!

Casino Royale is sooooo bad that it's actually quite wonderful!

All the films listed are bad, but you have not see the worst until you have seen:

    “The Creeping Terror”

No plot, bad acting, out of focus, the worst effects….Do I need to go on?

For myself, the two most agonizingly horrible, drill-to-the-head god awful wastes of celluloid ever dredged from the bottom of a sewage treatment plant films are; The Royal Tennenbaums and Moulin Rouge. Just thinking about watching a few seconds of either makes my head begin to twitch. They are the only films I have ever sent back to Netflix having only watched the first fifteen minutes. Truly and utterly worthless....

    Ugh.

Oh man I hate. hate. Moulin Rouge, what an overrated piece of crap. So was The newer version of Romeo and Juliet, also directed by Baz Luhrmann...I shudder at the thought of watching either of those movies.

I do agree that "Cabin Boy" is a terrible movie, but I can watch the scene with David Letterman over and over. "Hey little girl, would you like to buy a monkey?"

< Loves Moulin Rouge! and Romeo + Juliet, Npoleon Dynamite, and enjoyed The Royal Tenebaums.

Sometimes heavy stylization can turn viewers off. That's where the "not my cup of tea" principle comes into play. Not terrible films, just not for you.

For me, a few of those are Gunga Din, Garden State, 3 Women, and Time Bandits.

Well I loved the styling and such, it was the acting etc. that was horrid IMO.

Yeah, I dig stylization as much as anyone, but that's not the problem, at least for me. The reason that I don't dig those films is, well, 'cause they suck.

C'mon now, "'cause they suck" is no reason.

As for the acting - the acting is as stylized as the editing, art direction, cinematography, etc. It makes sense within the world of the film.
