Movies that everyone loves but I hate

    Napoleon Dynamite and Elf

I don't know about you guys, but the stupidity that the main character shwos in elf was enought for me to almost break my PS2 in half.

And Dynamite, it wasn't that it was a bad movie, but.. it didn't have the right amount of oomph for me.

Another movie, Bridget Jones Diary 2, it seemed that all she did was complain in that movie

Marge: Barnacle Bill's Home Pregnancy Test? Homer, shouldn't we have gone with a better-known brand?
Homer: But Marge, this one came with a corn-cob pipe!
Marge: [reading from the test box] "Ahoy, Maties! If the water turns blue, a baby for you! If purple ye see, no baby thar be!"
Homer: So, which is it? Blue or purple?
    Marge: Pink.
    Homer: D'oh!
Marge: "If ye test should fail, to a doctor set sail!"

*Alexander---3 hours of homosexual undertones, surrounded by a group of the most hetrosexual friends ever, each of us squirming in our seats as the ravaged the legendary tale of one of history's greatist icons.

*Planet of the Apes (remake) I am a sci-fi writer and I got done with this and was so angry, I think they had to get me plastered and box me around before I would shut up

*The Stepford Wives---oh man plot whole so big you could hide Jimmy Hoffa in there!

The Phantom of the Opera, Sure it was pretty [even though a bit gaudy at times], but Emmy Rossum is a horrible actress. She always looked as if she was confused and her speaking voice was annoying as heck.

I'm going to alter this statement so that it corresponds with my feelings

Oh yes, finally somebody feels the same way. I had about 9 people tell me how awesome Napoleon Dynamite was, so I went and saw it, and I just walked away feeling so ripped off. Bo-ring!

A big key to Napoleon Dynamite is knowing Idaho/Utah Mormon culture.

I have seen no sign of that movie while i've been in NZ, I've heard so much about how its good, so I really want to see it. But there enlies the problem,i get high expecations, then I see the real thing and end up dissapointed, happens everytime.

It is a pretty bad movie, and Jon Heder [the actor who plays Napoleon] is more annoying than funny. IMO

I'll still probably see it, my parents keep telling me how good it is, and I'm constantly reminded by their sign in name on MSN (vote for Pedro, and get your own tots) so at some point whether I choose to or not, i'll see it. I've heard it always talked about, and that disapoints me. I had monty python and the holy grail ruined for me like that. I knew all the lines before i saw it, disapointing.

Jon plays the character just fine. It's the character that is annoying (purposely so), not Jon. (I know Jon from school. Pretty average guy.)

The film is highly quotable, and that has contributed to the vast split in audience reaction. A quotable film will remind people who thought it was funny how funny it was, and it'll drive the people who thought it was unfunny to recall how unfunny they felt it was.

The film is well made for its budget ($200,000) and knows its target audience (12-25 year olds). The story is both minimalist (point of film = Napoleon goes from no friends to two friends) and its comedy is dependent on ones willingness to go from vignette to vignette without being overly concerned with grand story arcs.

You either buy into the film or you don't.

I did, though knowing a handful of the people involved in making the film certainly gives me a recognized bias.

Of course, if I felt they had made crap, I would have told them so.

The Matrix Sequals were pretty bad too, but at least no one pulled a bloody finger out of anyones pants to get the line- "See, i told you I was on my period."
