A new vision: The new O.C. downtown?
ANAHEIM – High-rise condos and sidewalk cafés could replace stark industrial buildings and mobile homes that now sit between Angel Stadium and the Disneyland Resort.
So, the city is proposing a "Grand Parkway," taking a street that now dead-ends at the stadium - Gene Autry Way - and extending it over the I-5 to the Anaheim Convention Center and the resort area.

The city hopes the parkway would become an urban boulevard like the Champs Elysées in Paris or Commonwealth Avenue in Boston, featuring bike trails, walkways and shops.
But the Grand Parkway concept faces challenges. It runs directly through land that the Walt Disney Co. has set aside for potential development of a third theme park. While the city has long held right-of-way access to that land, according to officials, it might need a Disney innovation to stretch the parkway up to the doors of the Convention Center. Hints about a monorail were dropped Tuesday.
