Any Macy's Thankgiving parade experts handy?

We are thinking about booking a trip to NYC for the 2007 Macy's Thanksgiving parade. Our plan is to stay at either the Millenium Broadway or Doubletree Times square in a "parade view room".

I know the main TV show stop for the parade is down Broadway well past these hotels, but does anything happen in times square it self?

Also are there any tricks to scoring a set of tickets to the Radio city music hall Christmas show? I seem to remember they go on sale sometime in the spring.

Any other parade hints, or suggestions for a good Turkey day dinner would be appreciated.

I'm only an expert at sitting on the couch in my PJ's watching the parade on TV, so I'm afraid I can't be of much help to you. I'm pretty sure we have a few New Yorkers here on the board though so hopefully one of them can be of assistance.

Re: Any Macy's Thankgiving parade experts handy?

i saw the parade many many many years ago and what i remember most is that the parade stopped for everything they did in herald square but noone did anything but mark time. all the show happens at herald square. even the bands seemed to mark time but then we were about five blocks from herald square. the balloons are actually pretty scary upclose because cross street winds cause them to whip back and forth on windy days. but it was fun to see the guys run up or slow down in order to keep the balloons in control.
