I just bought tickets to Lion King in January. Is anyone else going? Has anyone seen the show yet?

I saw the show last time it played here. We had great seats, pretty close and on the asile. We loved it!

OOhhh I'm going to watch Lion King with a club at my school. The club is meant for watching different plays/musicals....I had to only pay $33 (I think) because we are going as a big group...more than 150 students!

Oh yeah, and tickets go on sale at my school for the upcoming trip to see Wicked, but it's $60. Ahhhh, expensive for a student...

"Amazing" is the right word. The show is staged in such an inventive way.

We just saw the show last night. We had the understudy for Rafiki, and she was very good, as were all of the other smaller characters, as was the entire company, but the three male leads definitely left something to be desired.

The actor who played Scar was ok, but there were times when it just didn't seem dead on for the character.

The actor who played Mufasa was good at times, but he definitely did not show the majesty that should be inherent in Mufasa. He did not have the commanding performance required of the role, and one particular, important, line reading was completely off and didn't convey the feeling of the line at all.

But worst of all was the actor who played adult Simba. He sounded almost exactly like Dennis Miller, and while that's ok for some stuff, it definitely did not work for Simba. Considering how much adult Simba dominates the second act, it was actually difficult for me every time he spoke or sang.

The audience enjoyed the show, and there was a lot of applause at the end, and it's still a very impressive show, but of all the times I've seen the show, this was the first time when it was less than spectacular. It was definitely a huge change from when we saw the show in May on Broadway, who had a phenomenal cast.

I saw the very same show as you that night, and my sentiments towards it were very similar. It left a lot to be desired. I kept noticing dancers off time and looking around to keep up. I am sure this show is AMAZING on Broadway with the original cast, but I don't think i would see this with a temporary cast again.

Oh, and the woman who was standing in for the regular Rafiki... was phenomenal!

Re: Disney's Lion King at the Pantages

My boyfriend took me to see it as a suprise for our anniversary on December 19th.

If you think the understudy for Rafiki is amazing, you would love the regular woman, too! She's wonderful

I somewhat agree with the sentiments on the principle males. Scar...I don't know, he seemed to be on one plane the entire time, and his delivery with certain lines I felt weren't right at all. I thought Mufasa was very regal, but I did not feel the father-son connection with him and young Simba, which kind of bothered me. As for adult Simba...yeah, sounds like the original, but performance feels weak.
