"The Queen" has some nice legs.
Miramax's drama, directed by Stephen Frears, took in $2.8 million over the three-day holiday frame and $3.5 million over five, lifting its cume to almost $21 million.
Pic, starring Helen Mirren, was playing 953 screens in its ninth week of release.
Meanwhile, Fox Searchlight bowed its bigscreen version of "The History Boys" over the frame.
"Boys" -- based on the school-set Tony winner by Alan Bennett -- picked up $100,721 over the three-day sesh and $132,559 for the five day holiday. Searchlight bowed "Boys" on six screens Tuesday and added another over the weekend in Canada.
Studio subsid said it will expand "Boys" slowly, adding four more screens Dec. 8.
Studio specialty pics have expanded with varying degrees of success so far this year. A number of high-brow projects -- including "Marie Antoinette," "Running With Scissors," "The Queen" and "Babel" -- have found themselves on the top 10 chart at some point this fall by expanding their runs, only to drop out a frame or two later. Indeed, Paramount Vantage saw its globe-trotting ensemble drama "Babel" ensconced firmly in the top 10 last frame, but the Brad Pitt-Cate Blanchett starrer dropped out as wider releases moved in and the pic's screen count contracted from 1,251 to 902. Pic took in $1.9 million over three days and $2.5 over five, bringing its cume to $15.1 million.
