Re: Garden Grove OKs plan for amusement park - Los Angeles Times, 11/30/06
This is just a dream by misguided politicians in Garden Grove. The tried for a retail center a few years ago and when no developer would take on the project they went down a different path with the amusement park. They also floated the idea of a casino at one time. This is just local politicians spending taxpayer dollars in a futile attempt to revitalize a blighted area. The proximity to the freeway is enticing, along with other major attractions near by, but I do not see a developer coming in and investing that kind of money into this project. Look at the failed DCA, which is owned by a company that knows how to operate theme parks.
Universal already has one here, Magic Mountain is threatening to sell and convert the land to condos. It is a nice dream, but it will never happen. The city is floating this as theie attempt to revitalize this area and when this fails, they will pursue the next step, which is the casino. They truly would rather have the casino than the theme park as it would bring in more $$$. I have lived in this city for 11 years and worked in it for 17 and I have seen all these types of proposals before. This cities leaders and the cities demographics will not support either of these ideas. It will reamin the blighted area that it is and Garden Grove will still be envious of Anaheim. (Maybe they should have pursued Walt harder 50 years ago)
