    Lucasfilm going Public?

This is a discussion based off of this news article.

Lucasfilm is currently private. But what if it went public? Would you buy some shares? How do you think this would impact future Lucasfilm projects?

I doubt this will ever never ever happen. Lucas has built his empire on forcing Hollywood to come to his standards and the only reason his films go through 20th Century Fox is because the studio system has a lock on distrubution of films. He has a lot of desdain for politics, economics and the studio system in general.

Don't do it, George! Look what happened to DisneyCo! Instead of focusing on developing innovative and daring product, the tend more towards cashing in on the quickest buck possible for their "investors".

    Will never happen.
Lucas is far too proud of this techological terror he's constructed to let it fall into Rebel hands.

I can't imagine Lucasfilm ever going public as long as George Lucas is alive and in charge. There's no reason for him to take the company public and lots of reasons for him not to.

I agree, any company that goes public goes from solvency (long-term operational assets) to liquidity (ability to generate short-term cash flows).

Finally, something from accounting class that I remember.

I remember Lucas saying that he constructed LucasFilm so he didn't have to cater to the Studio System... and in the 70's he was a the right place at the right time to make the technological revolution happen...

Ironicly Lucas is against the whole Studio System at large... But ironically his company has become the most powerful Film and Technical Studio in the world... He is aware of this...

And with out him, you would not have Pixar or DreamWorks...

Ironicly we still might have had Star Trek...

I doubt this will happen. Companies go public and sell shares in order to raise capital. Last time I checked, GL didn't need the money.
