American Idol Season 6 Discussion Thread

I did not see anyone else open a thread for this so I figured I would open one.

Who here is excited about the next season of American Idol starting back up on Tuesday?

I can't wait. I loved last season and hope that this one is better. I have to admit, I would love to see Mandisa again. I'm sure she won't be on the show this season, but I think she has great potential.

I am looking foward to the bad performances as well .

Over the years, Simon has been scoulded for all the comments he made. Should he cut back on his brutality or do you think he's just being brutally honest? I think he is being brutally honest and saying things that the participants need to know. He gives them reality checks.

Anyway, here is the newest American Idol thread for us Idol fans so that we can come in here and discuss anything, and everything, during the season.

Thanks, DW. The first few weeks are the roughest for me as we have to sit through all the painful auditions.

I had some INCREDIBLY talented kids audition this year, and none of them made it to the second round.

ALL of them could sing circles around that cowboy kid from last year. I hope they hold on to some sort of integrity this year.

I agree about the "auditions". I love to laugh at them at first. But they get old and then I am ready for them to get to next faze.

Have you seen that commercial........"Can I sing some Sweet Home Alabama"?

I enjoy the show more now because I tell myself that this isn't a talent show, it is an entertainment show. Just because you are a good singer doesn't necessarily mean you are entertaining. We are more likely to see those who sing marginally well but have a great personality or back story. JMO

Did you do some work for the American Idol show or something? Or are you referring to your own kids?

I remember running into William Hung at the Nashville airport last August. I wonder why he was there.

Not that LDF needs me to speak for him, but I believe he is involved in music and vocal instruction of some kind in the Southern California area. I assume he was referring to his students.

I've never really watched the show except for a couple of times when I couldn't take Simon's bashing of people's hopes and dreams in such an unkind way, no matter how necessary. I realize that this is a big part of the "entertainment" of the show. I'm going to really try to hang with it this season so I can keep up with what folks are talking about in May.

Thanks Barry . It would be neat to see Simon offer more Constructive Criticism though.

Everyone knows the entertainment industry is cutthroat. Why should Simon's comments be any different?

    Another good point .

Thousands of people want to be in the industry, but only a few make it and actually make a good living. Rejection has a very huge role in the entertainment industry. I also think what we see with Simon is probably barely a scratch on the surface.

Well I experienced the talent of Season 6 first hand as I auditioned and was cut in the first round. It is about one in a hundred that make it through the first round of producers no matter how talented you are. I have had voice lessons for years and the judge cut me in around 15 seconds! Anyway if anyone has seen the previews, the Bananna auditioned right next to me and made it through to Simon, Randy and Paula. It is not a singing competition, they are simply casting for a TV show.

What do you guys think the mid-season twist will be?
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...
