I SERIOUSLY cant wait till this movie to come out! Its much more like the book and from what I hear the family of the author is pleased with this version of Wonka, the first was not at all what the author wanted. This is what I have heard.
This movie will be huge i can feel it!

Ok- is it just me, or does it look like Johnny is wearing dentures? His teeth are totally creeping me out.....
He's absolutely wearing false teeth. Unfortunately, Mr. Depp is a heavy smoker. If you've ever had a look at his real teeth you'd easily assume such.

As for whether the new film will be truer to the book, well, the screenwriter (John August, who also wrote the screenplay for Big Fish) had never seen the original film when he wrote his first draft. There are several things in the first film that were not i9n the book and therefore won't make it into the new film, most notably the finding of the false ticket before Charlie gets the last one, Slugworth, the musical numbers (save for the book-based Oompa-Loompa ones), and Charlie "failing" the test at first before giving back the Gobstopper. Other parts of the book will make it to this film for the first time: Prince Pondicherry's melting palace, Wonka's explanation of how he saved the Oompa-Loompas, Veruca being a bad nut, and not the 1971 film's change to a bad egg, etc.

Personally, I think it looks wonderful.

So far the movie feels kind of... obnoxious.

Most Dahl books have that "obnoxious" feel to them, so take that as you feel appropriate.

Oh I am an avid Dahl fan. But what I'm getting from the previews doesn't feel like Dahl to me.

Well, it's half Dahl, half Burton.

Which to me seems to null the whole point of the movie, that it is supposed to be the version Dahl wanted. Oh well. I'm seeing it anyway...

Well, you can't ever expect any book-to-film adaptation to be 100% faithful to the source material. Different mediums, different ways to tell the story. The Lord of the Rings films are not Tolkien's story, but rather Peter Jackson's version of Tolkien's story; same with the Harry Potter films, etc. However, what a good, "faithful" adaptation does is capture the essence and spirit of the novel; a line like Charlie's (found in my signature) is not in the book, but John August certainly captures the essence/spirit of the book with it.

I SO cannot wait to see this. I loved the original and this remake looks to be a total trip. Plus I've been a Johnny Depp fan ever since he was on 21 Jump Street. He's going to totally make his role as Wonka his own.

It has to be mentioned again. Looks like Johnny Depp is taking some inspiration from Michael Jackson on this one: long dark straight hair, white face make up, trying to attract kids with his own magical kingdom, and a high pitched voice. (insert creepy looking face here!)

Didn't Dahl (the author of the book) write the screenplay for the original '71 movie?

No. The 1971 film's screenplay was written by David Seltzer.

Have you noticed the reference to Edward Scissorhands (Also a Burton/Depp film) in the trailer when Wonka is in front of the factory and gestures with some hedge clippers!
