I had hoped that they would have more news today, but the Digital Bits reported this:
First things first today: I've got GREAT news for you Disney fans. I've just confirmed this morning with Buena Vista Home Entertainment that their much loved Walt Disney Treasures line of DVDs has NOT been cancelled. In fact, I'm told that at least a couple more waves of releases in the line are planned, with the next due in time for the holidays this year. We'll post additional details as they become available, but rest assured this news comes straight from the studio and it's the real deal. So there you go, folks!
They tend to be a very good source of news so lets keep our fingers crossed!

*fingers crossed* I do hope they continue with the Donald Duck series. I want them to show the "Dear Diary" short.

    Jan 31:

    >>The month of January has been a very confusing one for Disney fans who collect the Walt Disney Treasures DVDs. What began with many enjoying the four sets comprising the sixth and most recent wave of the series gave way to disappointment and outcry when Treasures host/producer Leonard Maltin made it known that the line was coming to an unexpected and abrupt end. Some of the informed public responded by calling Disney's customer service line or sending e-mails and letters. Then, last Friday, one of the Internet's oldest and most popular DVD websites -- The Digital Bits -- reported that sources at Buena Vista Home Entertainment confirmed that the Treasures were alive and well, with at least two more waves being developed. This has been supported by information given over e-mail, phone, and forum by Walt Disney Home Video's Customer Service representatives. Celebrating this seemingly happy ending, though, would appear to be premature. In an e-mail to UD sent this morning, Leonard Maltin claims, "All I can say is this: I was told the series was over, and no one at the Disney company has told me otherwise... I wish I could put this rumor about the Treasures to rest. I fear there is some heavy-duty wishful thinking at work here... but of course, I could be wrong."<<

One scenrio being floated about the message boards is that Leonard could have been cut out of the picture by WDHV - - but that would leave title selection and restoration, etc. in very iffy hands...

Re: Walt Disney Treasures Discussion Thread

I hope Leonard is still with the series and that it continues indefinitely... Whomever is in charge going forward will have to do a better job selecting, remastering or restoring the original prints and masters.

This company must learn to take care of its entire historic film library. Most of the TV episodes have been left alone to rot... Even if these shows go completely to online downloads, great restored mastsers must be made of all the films and episodes!

Some other Treasures I'd like to see:

Chip & Dale (all shorts plus the TV hours)

Dr. Syn Alias the Scarecrow/Scarecrow of Romney Marsh (Complete episodes and feature version plus McGoohan interview)

Rarities 2 (the rest of the animated stand-alones and featurettes)

Best of Disneyland/Wonderful World of Color Volumes (everything else with original animation: Plausible Impossible, Great Cat Family, Tough to be a Bird, etc.)

Widescreen Shorts (including improved masters from those found in Rarities)

Winnie-the-Pooh (all of the original featurettes, plus the TV/Feature footage, Sears commercials, etc.)

Commercial Disney (all the animated commercials- theatricals, tv ads, etc, the Disneyland and WDW animated attraction films and pre-shows)

    The Trailers

    - - and of course the remaining Complete Donald shorts volumes, including all of his TV hours with original footage

I want it all. I missed out on most of the Disney heyday, so I'd like them to keep cranking them out! The Walt Disney Treasures are really the ONLY DVD's I collect. I always look forward to the winter. I can still remember how giddy I was watching Disneyland U.S.A. for the first time.
