In 1997 (with the nominated films from 1996), the Academy began presenting its "Shorts!" program in the spring, following the Academy Awards. The event sold out every year, as audiences embraced the opportunity not only to see the nominees and winners in the Animated and Live Action Short Film categories, but also to hear from some of the filmmakers.
Then two years ago, the Academy tried something different: screening the films the week before the Oscars®. Last year, a packed house was treated to two panel discussions with all of the nominated filmmakers in both categories, hosted by past Animated Short Film winner Chris Wedge. Although this year’s nominees are still a mystery, the event promises to provide those in attendance with an insider's look at these two categories before the winners are announced on Sunday, February 25.

    Short Film (Animated)
The Danish Poet, Torill Kove, director
    Lifted, Gary Rydstrom, director

    Éramos Pocos, Borja Cobeaga, director
Helmer & Son, Soren Pilmark, director; Kim Magnusson, executive producer
The Saviour, Peter Templeman, director; Stuart Parkyn, producer
West Bank Story, Ari Sandel, director
Tickets are $5 for the general public and $3 for Academy members. Tickets for this event will be available beginning February 1, at the Academy during regular business hours, by mail (HTML or PDF format), or on the night of the screening, if still available. Ticket orders may be mailed in now, but they will not be processed until February 1. Please note, we do not take phone reservations or any credit cards. If ordering by mail, please remember to include a self-addressed, stamped envelope along with your personal check made out to THE ACADEMY FOUNDATION. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. All seating is unreserved.

We're going to see both Animated and Live Actions shorts at the Egyptian on the Saturday before the Awards. Tonight, the Oscar Docs are being shown at the Aero. Both are presented by American Cinematheque. I may or maynot go to the docs. I'm on the list but I'm not sure I am up for the hell drive from Long Beach to Santa Monica. Hollywood is a MUCH easier destination.
