    Bridge to Tarabithia? (Merged Threads)

This next movie due out from Walden and Disney look interesting. But they say it is based on a children's classic book. I never heard of it but the trailer does look like it has a lot of fantasy stuff. Anybody here ever read this book? And, if so, do you think the movie will be worth a trip to the El Capitan to see?

The Bridge to Terabithia by Katherin Paterson is a classic, award-winning book. It's been my favorite book since I was nine.

I'm not sure how I feel about the movie anymore. It looks mis-cast and I'm not loving the "supernatural" feel to it.

So the book does not have all the fantastical creatures and fantasy lands in it? I think I am going to like the movie better. What does the book have?

A good story told well. I'm a bit biased though.

    Re: Tarabithia?

Here's a good description from the first thread on the film:

Published in 1977 by HarperCollins, the Newbery Award-winning "Bridge" follows the story of an 11-year-old boy whose life is changed forever when he befriends the class outsider, a girl. Together they create the world of Terabithia, an imaginary kingdom filled with giants, trolls and other magical beings.

It looks interesting enough but my fiance and I decided we were going to pass on this one. I don't know if you will need to take a trip to the El Capitan for it though. I think you will be fine watching this on any movie screen.

I think it looks like a good movie. There hasn't been many movies out there for me, so I hope to see this one.

    Re: Tarabithia?

There was a made-for-TV version made in 1985, which is NOTHING like the movie being made. When I saw the first trailer for this movie, my thought was "is this the same book I read as a kid?!" (The movie version is probably what I remember more, btw.)

The made-for-TV version was apparently released on DVD in 2003 if you want to see it and get a 60 minute feel of what the story is.

So I've read... I haven't seen it in a long time.

The author apparently really loves the new one. Heard it made her cry -- that's a great complement, there. And extremely faithful to the book, too.
