Las Vegas NBA ALL-STAR Game in 3-D!!!!

This sounds freaking tight! Anyone gonna be in Vegas for the All-Star game?

In an experiment billed as the first live sports event to be broadcast in 3-D high definition, Pace, a technology company, has designed five cameras to cover the action at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. Steve Hellmuth, N.B.A. Entertainment’s senior vice president for operations and technology, said the viewers’ experience would be “about as close as you can get to having courtside seats.” Variety reported that plans were in the works for a 3-D high-definition broadcast of at least one game of the NBA finals to paying customers.

    That would be sweet!!!!
My brother in laws and a few buddies are thinking of going up there for that weekend just to hang out. After seeing the ticket prices ($1500 - $25,000) for seats, I'd much rather go see it in 3-D!

    Thanks for posting this!!

I didn't get to go but I did watch the game. Not in 3-D, only HD.
The game itself was pretty boring in my opinion. I'm sooooo glad I couldn't afford to go!
The events before are way better than the actual game.
Too bad Wade won the skills challenge though.

This is going to be a much more widespread thing soon. Real-D has been toying around with the possibility of doing live 3-D coverage of events for a while (just as IMAX has done live showings of concerts and such). I'm sure this was only a test run. So, wait -- you'll probably be able to get to have the same experience coming to a theater near you sometime soon.

Of course, they better hurry up and do this before the first 3D HD TV sets and the first 3D HD broadcasts are made. It's coming quickly...
