Re: the official "What movie did you just see?" thread! MERGED

It's been a movie extravaganza around my house this week.

We just came back from seeing The Spiderwick Chronicles.

My son and I were both totally disappointed. We read the books about 2 months ago to get ready for the movie. I've decided that I either need to quit reading or quit seeing the movies after I've read the book.

My son is 9 - the entire way home he kept complaining about how much was left out of the movie, and how he didn't like the changes. Also, he didn't like the language (too much "oh my God" and the one time the word hell was used).

The movie was fine if you hadn't read the book. I too was very disappointed in the movie. I thought they could have followed the book easily, there weren't many slow parts, but the literally left out Book 4.

The new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle - (CGI version). My kids have been dying to see it. I wasn't all that excited. But, honestly, it wasn't that bad! I was disappointed to not see Shredder, but it was hinted at the end that there would be a sequel and old enemies would return. My kids thought it was cool and they really liked it.

Martin Scorsese's Rolling Stones flick "Shine a Light" in IMAX. Great sound system at the IMAX!!! Humorous behind-the-scenes opening before the concert, which was great!

I hated that movie too Jen. What a waste of time.

Saw Leatherheads yesterday with a theater full of old people who laughed and laughed. It was a cute movie. George Clooney is always good in my opinion, and even though I am not a big Renee Zelleger fan, I thought she did ok in this role. The movie is suppose to be a throw-back to the 30s and 40s newspaper films with Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn. I think they succeeded in what they set out to do.

Nims Island - review on Nim's Island thread - cute KID movie - but then for us women, it's a cute Gerard Butler vehicle

Game Plan - finally got it from Netflix - cute, very cute - the Rock is a huge man - cute as can be in this - the team was really funny

Ancient Relic - it's a not to famous movie, a B movie at that - about a time traveler who goes back in time and gets video of Christ - great premise - but all you get most of the time is the bad guys, who are terrible bad guys and can't shoot a lick, chasing the guy who is fitting all the pieces of the puzzle to find the camera and to see the footage - you do learn some history about Jeruseleum and the times which is always interesting - it's filmed entirely in Israel and outside Gaza - if you decide to rent it be aware that it's dubbed to english, you can't really tell, but you don't know really whats going on until the last 10 minutes which I wanted to see bits and pieces of the Christ video throughout - snippets would have been interesting so that the audience can figure out who the time traveler is and such -

Alvin and the Chipmunks - did anyone say this was cute? it was....but it was probably 30 min too long, it would have made a cute TV movie

Tonight I'm checking out Casino Royale, haven't see it yet

Next week - can't wait - Lion of the Lambs anything with Meryl Streep has to be good and There Will Be Blood with Daniel Day Lewis

I agree with you. Once I got over the initial shock and hilarity of two grown men skating together, the movie just became stupid. I really didn't care for the conflict with the competition either. (same thing with talladega nights... it got old fast).

I saw Nims Island this morning and I really liked it. I haven't read the book so I didn't know what to expect, it was a lot different than I thought it would be.

It's been a rough week for my husband and me, so tonight we are watching Airplane! "I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue"

Please tell me if you agree that Ep2 is the worst of the prequels!
