Surprising things your non-Disney significant other says about Disney.

Brian told me today in an email (he's been gone out of town for work a while and hasn't been to the parks since mid January), "I really miss going to Disneyland. I can't beleive I am saying that."

Struck me as funny because before me, he not only hadn't been to Dland (since he just moved here) he certainly never really watched any Disney movies.

He even bought tickets for us to see Peter Pan at the El Cap, without even asking if I wanted to go, he just bought them all on his own!

Got me to thinking, do your wives/husbands/partners/whatever, that don't really consider themselves Disney fans, and that usually make fun of your obsession, say things positive about the parks, or movies, or whatever? And when they do this it just makes you go "Did you really just say that?"

Funny you should say that...my DH isn't a huge Disney fan, but he knows how much I love it so he tolerates going with me.

The other day he told me "you know, maybe we should look into getting annual passes since I know how much you enjoy going. We could go weekday evenings after I get out of work (he works in Anaheim) to catch some rides and get some dinner, or something."

I looked at him, 'd, and thought "huh? Who are you and what have you done with my husband?!!?!"
    She did it!

My husband teases me at home, but at work, he's the Disneyland vacation specialist.

He fields calls from his sub-contractors and office staff all the time. He give them hotel reviews, explains about APs, suggests vacation lengths, where to fly into, which shuttle service to take, etc.

When we're out with people who ask about our Disneyland fixation, it's him that defends our annual trips, not me. I'm always like, "Yeah, we're ready to move on, the kids are getting older, blahblah." He's all, "We have the best time, the kids love it, every year we say we're not going back, but we always do!"

But at home, I'm the Disney not him. Yeah, right.

My boyfriend overindulges my Donald Duck/Disney passion. I caught him looking for a Donald Easter basket the other day on eBay!

He's helped me paint the spare room "Donald Orange" and "Mickey's Gloves white" (gotta love the Disney paints from Home Depot!) & set it up as the "Duckie" room. The weekend after we first met he went to a convention and had a print signed by Don Rosa for me. He even has his friends look for Donald stuff for me (it's a fair trade though as we look for stuff for other people as well when we're out looking for toys).

I think it's great and I love to go out and look for Transformers stuff for him that he doesn't have. I love to hunt things down and surprise him. Our house is a giant toy store! lol

My husband shops on ebay, and when he sees something with either Jiminy Cricket, or Grumpy, he's likely to bid on it. Not for himself, No. I am the fan of Jiminy Cricket, and my grandson's mom loves Grumpy. If you ask him if he likes Disney, he says, "No",

I rubbed off on my friends and they LOVE it now. Not as informed as I am about Disney in general, but they love it.

As far as family, it is always nice when my dad or someone else compliments on how clean and organzied it can be at times. But then there is always the "We went on New Years Eve...never again" story that pops up. But then I twist into some impressive fact of how many Disney can actually pack into the parks.

This is all so true. It's that old chestnut of philosophy that if a person has interest in some topic enough--they can make others interested in it as well through sheer enthusiasm. My partner, liked, but not loved Disney stuff. And really, he's very quiet about it, until our trip in 2005, where he kept bugging me, "did you get the tickets?" and "show me the hotel on online again?"

And when the got the passes to the park, he was jumping in the living room with a huge grin on his face!

So yeah, it is surprising. For our first few years together, I tried to keep quiet about my Disney obsession--you know, so I didn't overdo it and scare him away. And now he points out new Disney books at Borders. Funny how things work out!

    Peace,

Re: Surprising things your non-Disney significant other says about Disney.

My boyfriend and I have been together for just over 6 months. I've not kept my Disney love a secret, and he's joined me to the parks twice now. The first time he humored me and asked questions about things.. kept a pretty open mind. I do tend to avoid using Disney lingo with him so things make more sense to he who is a non-fan. But once I used the term "employees" when talking to him, and he CORRECTED me! "It's 'Cast Members', dear."

Since then I have realized he's getting more into it, even if it is against his will. I have an annual pass, and he is thinking about getting one. It's been a few months since our last visit, and he's already telling me he misses it. We have a "road trip" planned with some of his friends for a Disneyland visit in August, and he can't stop talking about it.

It's true that I make a sincere effort to get into the things he loves too, and I think that pays off. He loves to see me happy and he does what he can to make it happen. He also searches eBay for my Disney loves!

All I can say is it takes a strong person to love a Disney fan. We on this thread are very lucky people!
