Well I am of two minds here. I am a Family Guy fan but I understand her feelings.

However it is worth considering that she did make her career on parody and thus could have more of a sense of humor.

Its not like they attack her every week, it was one 30 second bit in one episode

Quite a few seeing as it basically rebirthed itself from cancellation.

Carol Burnett should get over it. Family Guy parodies EVERYTHING. It's what makes the show so entertaining.

^ Agreed. She needs to get over it.

It's called a Parody. Nothing to sue about.

I still watch Family Guy though I don't remember that spoof. I'd like to see it again.

But yah... she's got no lawsuit. I'd be suprised if she wins.

i find it very disappointing that she went this route. everyone's so dang lawsuit happy these days. what will she do if someone goes back and watches tapes of her shows and decides now to sue her as well, goodness knows she's done enough parodies to find herself on the other end of the lawsuit stick.

and Family Guy is one of my DVR timers i love it

Sounds like she is desperate for some publicity. IF they are basing the character on her, she should be honored. She needs to get over herself, and slip back into obscurity.

Re: Carol Burnett sues FOX over "Family Guy" Episode

Carol Burnett's cleaning woman character is known in the Copyright world as an "intellectual property". A lot of hard work and creativity went into the role, and it should not be free for the rip off.

On a personal note, Family Guy is a funny enough show. Though, my contention is that any one episode of the former Carol Burnett Show has more entertainment value than the sum total of FG. FUFG!

Why am I reminded of the South Park episodes about Family Guy? Oh yeah, because if she wins then obviously the show will be cancelled. If she can win then other people will start suing too for times that family Guy has parodied them or characters they have created.

I doubt she will win though.

    1. Case will be thrown out in less than 18 seconds.
    2. 20thCentury Fox will sue Burnett for litigation costs.
    3. All will be settled when Burnett agrees to a cameo part on the show.

I'm not into Family Guy but it's a show and I don't think much will come of it.

Re: Carol Burnett sues FOX over "Family Guy" Episode

Fact of the matter is, she was asked in 2005 if they could use her in their show - she said no. But then they take 'her' character and use it anyway.....call it a parody, call it a compliment, call it whatever you want. Ms. Burnett said no, and it's called copywrite infringement.

Ms. Burnett is not suing to be 'in the spotlight'. She's suing because she has every right to do so. And she will win. She sued the Enquirer about 20 years ago or so, and won. Because it is copywrite infringement, I do believe she will win again.

In order to do a parody of someone, you have to get their OK. When 'they' asked Burnett if they could use her image, she refused. But they did it anyway. That is where the lawsuit comes into play because it is now Copywrite infringement - they didn't get the 'ok'. I don't think it's disappointing that she went that route - I think she was smart to go that route.

But it's not as much as a character that 'she' created inasmuch that it is CAROL BURNETT. Fact is, they asked Burnett in 2005 if they could use it, and she said "NO". They did it anyway. This is why she is suing.
