    New 'Ratatouille' trailer 3/23 - comingsoon.net 3/19/07

    New Ratatouille Trailer Coming Friday

    Source: Walt Disney Pictures
    March 19, 2007

On Friday, March 23rd at 9:05PM PDT, the Ratatouille trailer will debut online on Disney.com, following the trailer's broadcast debut on "Cory in the House" on The Disney Channel.

In anticipation of the trailer debut, you can now grab a "Ratatouille Viral Player" from the official site, featuring a countdown clock and coding that allows fans and webmasters to add the Player to their own website, social networking profile, or blog. Plus, the player will supply fans with additional video content leading up to the film's premiere.

Disney has also provided ComingSoon.net with a brand new image of the main character Remy, looking over the beautiful Paris skyline. Located just across the Seine, right in front of the Eiffel Tower, lies Gusteau's restaurant, one of Paris' most exclusive restaurants, where Remy’s tale unfolds.

Disney/Pixar's Ratatouille hits theaters on June 29.

And somehow, it just doesn't generate the same excitement as POTC3.

The new Ratatouille trailer premiered tonight on The Disney Channel and Disney.com. The two and a half minute segment showed Remy the rat being trapped in a jar and evicted from the kitchen of a French restaurant. An inept kitchen worker is charged with disposing of Remy in the Seine, but has a change of heart when he realizes Remy not only can understand him, but also has the culinary talent he lacks. Thus begins a unique partnership between man and rat as Remy teaches the eager but awkward cook the finer points of preparing French cuisine and learns to guide him by tugging carefully (and sometimes not so carefully) on the cook's hair.

There is a love interest in a young female cook with a sharp tongue, reminiscent of Megara in Disney's Hercules, and conflict with another chef obsessed with ridding his kitchen of all rats, even a culinarily gifted one.

The animation is gorgeous, and the story has a warm fuzzy feeling to it--it's basically a buddy comedy about two misfits trying to find their respective ways in the world. Despite some slapstick moments in the kitchen, this still looks like a movie that will try to charm you with a droll chuckle than wow you with a loud guffaw. And there's still that bit about having a lead character who's a rat. It just doesn't feel right. That Brad Bird (The Incredibles) is the director gets my attention, but Ratatouille still isn't high on my list of must-see movies this summer.
