Am I the only one that would watch a show for 2 minutes just for the theme song and turn the channel? There are great TV themes for shows I never really liked. My grandma loved Dallas and would watch it everytime she came over to babysit when I was a kid.. I loved the theme but the show was boring to a kid like me at the time.
another example is Zorro. Disney Channel used to show the reruns all the time when I was young. I thought the show was boring at that time. But I loved the theme music.

....so so many. But I usually watch the show as well......
Oh and here's another thing to think about. Take a look at the Bilboard charts im history and look at the large amount of TV themes that became smash hits. Welcome Back Kotter's theme hit number one during its time.

And BD Bopper - you are correct about that. Many WERE on those charts. The theme from Laverne & Shirley, to name one...
And if I remember reading correctly when Happy Days used "Rock Around The Clock" in its opening title sequence, that song hit the Top 40 again after 15 + years!

All I have to hear is the harps from the opening theme of The Simpsons, and I relax.

To me, yes. I've never done that. The theme songs I tend to enjoy, I usually watch all or half of the show.

If it's a show that I like and have watched most if not all the episodes I'll do the just tune in to hear the music as a thought, but almost always get suckered in and watch the episode again.
One that always gets me is the theme song from Quantum Leap, 2 more that pop in my head are Star Trek Voyager and also the theme from Enterprise.
Great theme song and I loved the Splits themselves and their skits, but those toons on there were unwatchable to me as a kid.I forgot to add The Banana Splits theme.
