Hollywood Today reports that actor Johnny Depp, in his turn as Captain Jack Sparrow in Disney's Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest, earned a staggering $78 million after base salary, back end payments and licensing royalties were added up from the blockbuster film.
Arguably, this would make Depp the highest paid actor ever.
Dead Man's Chest grossed over $1 billion worldwide at the box office and was the biggest selling DVD release of 2006.
Depp's take from the first two Pirates films is estimated to be over $106 million. Hollywood Today reports that he'll make a minimum of $40 million for POTC: At World's End. They also suggest that Depp could be tapped to play Sparrow in as many as three more Pirates movies, especially if the box office returns from At World's End live up to expectations.
