    NHL Approves Ducks Sale...

And so ends another Eisner folly.....

    NHL approves Mighty Ducks sale

    June 16, 2005
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- The sale of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim to Henry and Susan Samueli was approved by the NHL's Board of Governors on Thursday.

The board granted unanimous approval pending completion of the sale, which is expected shortly.

Mighty Ducks spokesman Alex Gilchrist said the new owners wouldn't comment until the sale becomes final. The sale for a reported $75 million was announced Feb. 25 and includes Disney Ice, a Mighty Ducks practice facility.

Samueli is co-founder, chairman of the board and chief technical officer of Broadcom Corp. He also owns the company that manages Anaheim Arena, the Mighty Ducks' home ice.

When the sale was announced, Samueli said he didn't intend to move the team and wouldn't change its name to Los Angeles Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.

Arte Moreno, who bought the Angels from Disney in 2003, changed the team's name from Anaheim Angels to Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim this year.

Although the Ducks were Western Conference champions and went to the Stanley Cup finals during the 2002-03 season, Disney had them on the market for years.

The Ducks didn't qualify for the playoffs the following season, and last season was canceled due to a labor dispute.

Disney paid $50 million for the Ducks to join the NHL as an expansion franchise in 1992.

So we'll all get to pack away our Ducks jerseys in the same place we keep the Nordiques, Jets, etc...

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

I know... But I can think of worse... The Anahiem Sea Slugs...

Still rooting for someone to change the name to: The Anahiem Killer Squirels.

the first Mighty Ducks hockey movie was decent... but to name a team after an Emilo Estives star vehicle? As if his ego isn't swolen enough being a member of the Sheen clan...

    Speaking of Floaters....
None of this may even matter as the NHL has dug itself into a trench.
If No Deal is struck by Mid July, Games from THIS upcoming season start to get scratched, as arena's need 90 days notice for event bookings and dont want to lose a single days pay to the NHL...
