    Question Earlier than midnight showings?

While I was browsing online, I realized that Shrek and POTC are both having earlier than midnight showings. Shrek is having 10 p.m showings on Thursday the 17th. POTC is having scattered showings starting at 8 p.m on the 24th. I am having trouble with my group who half wants to stick with the midnight crowd and half who want to see it earlier.

Why do you all think that they chose to do this? Will you choose to go to the earlier showing or stick with the midnight crowd?

I'd push for the earlier show.
Where is it playing early? I might want to tap that.

Nothing in my area seems to be showing it warly.

To answer your question: In the contract signed with the theater chain, there is some restriction on when the earliest it can show it.
    1. It might state "Friday May 25, 2007" but no time.
    2. It might state Friday May 25, 2007 12:01AM EST." I'm guessing this is what POTC states, since we're currently in Pacific Daylight Time, and 8PM PDT is Midnight EST.

I don't know how one comes up with a 10PM time for Shrek3.

    Re: Earlier than midnight showings?

    12 midnight EST
    11 pm CST
    10 pm MST
    9 pm PST

So it is not due to EST, since it starts at 8pm PST,
    which is 11pm EST.

In fact, DL had a special PotC DMC event the Thursday
night before the Friday opening of the 2nd Pirate movie.
The final activity of the evening was a showing of DMC
at midnight at the AMC theaters in DTD (which was Friday,
the official opening day) So even for this "special audience,
the EST zone wasn't taken into effect, for the start of the movie.

Most theaters in the Phoenix area don't have their showtimes
available for this 3rd PotC movie, yet. But one theater in the
Phoenix area does list an 8pm show and 11:59pm show on
that Thursday. My guess is that the 8pm show just has
about 4 hours of previews before the movie actually starts.

One other possibility, maybe the 8pm shows are for audiences
that want to see the entire trilogy, CotBP 8pm, DMC 10pm, and
EotE 12 midnight. not sure. maybe someone that works/
or manages these theaters has the answer.

    Possibly.

I would like to know exactly which theaters are showing POTC early. I'll drive an hour or so (40 miles in friendly LA traffic) for that.

Click that, scroll down, put in your zipcode and it will show you which theaters are showing it early.

If you are looking to go to an AMC, the only theater as of now that has any early showing at all is the Downtown Disney theater. I am assuming that will change.

A midnight showing of anything means nothing unless it's Rocky Horror Picture Show!

Actually my kids are going to the midnight showing of both Potter and Pirates - I'm not, I can wait - I'm way past my impatient years

I like the previews and trailers! LOL - Sometimes I enjoy those more than the movie (thats if the movie is a stinker)

I have to agree with you on that one. Rocky Horror Picture Show is so fun.

Still, I have two brothers to make happy so here I go. I did have a great time last year. My parents will be doing the same as yourself. We are doing a family trip to the El Capitan the next day to see it.

Grazie, bella! The Regal in Simi on Tapo Canyon Rd is showing at 8PM. I might swing by to buy tickets tonight.

Re: Earlier showings - BOSTON, MA

In the Boston area it is listed as showing on the 24th at the Fenway Movie Theater in Brookline MA, and the earliest shows are at 8:00pm and 8:25pm

Hmm, seems that the contract states 8PM for all time zones. Kind of sucky. Now the East coast STILL gets to see it three hours before we do.

?????? Think about it, your statement still doesn't
make sense. East Coast and West Coast are still
3 hours apart. Both go on Daylight Savings at the
same day and go back to Standard time the same day.
    .

And as I pointed out previously, POTC DMC didn't start
before midnight in any of the time zones it played in. So
there is something else involved in why PotC 3 is starting
    at 8pm

Like I said, surely some movie theater manager who
reads these boards, or someone who works with Disney
and has first hand knowledge about the reason for this,
and is informed about the actual agreement may speak
up ~ instead of just having people guess why.

Wow! Thanks for the info! I had no idea the showing was that early. We're showing at 8 and 8:25 here.
