Disney gets pricier - Orange COunty Register, 6/18/05
Gas prices are climbing, house prices are soaring and Disney theme-park prices are keeping pace.
The regular adult admission ticket jumps to $56 on Monday, and the price for children 3-9 goes to $46. Each price reflects a $3 increase, and it's the second time this year Disney has raised prices for Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure.
The price will be $9 higher than 2003, a 19 percent spike. Gasoline over that same period has risen 37 percent, from an average of $1.70 a gallon to $2.33 a gallon.
Disney's admission price includes nearly all attractions and shows. Parking is an additional $9. Annual pass prices will remain the same, ranging from $99 to $329.
Theme parks typically raise prices in response to consumer demand. Disney expects large crowds this summer after extensive marketing of its 50th-anniversary celebration for Disneyland.
"We believe our pricing reflects the tremendous value our guests experience at the Disneyland Resort, where they can enjoy up to 16 hours of world-class entertainment and fun," said Disney spokesman Bob Tucker.
Norma Rimke, 68, of Orange enjoys Disneyland but now wonders if she can afford it. She cares full-time for three grandchildren ages 7 to 16 and usually takes them to Disneyland once a year. "It's unreal," Rimke said upon learning of the increase. "For people on a fixed income, that's too difficult. They're basically pricing us out."
