I LOVED IT!! Speedway brought up very good points!! but it is enjoyable! I will be seeing it again (at least one or two more times) to make sure I didn't miss anything.

Glad you liked it too. It's jam-packed so there is bound to be something you'll pick-up at second viewing.

I loved it too. I did not find it confusing. I liked at lot of the little references to the previous films and the attraction. That's all I'm saying.

Just got home from the 8:00pm show - waited in line for HOURS in hopes of getting good seats and it worked

I liked the movie it had me laughing and gasping at many different points.

And one bit of advice, not a spoiler - just an alert.....

Stay for the end of the credits!!!!!

Trust me on this one - granted any true POTC fan would already know this, but still

Ok, maybe one bit of a spoiler
    Spoiler
There is NO WAY there will not be more POTC movies! I thought this was supposed to be a good end to the story but it opened some rather large doors at least in my view.

Just got back from the marathon at the El Capitan (which was worth every penny of the $100 admission, by the by.) Since I saw all three at once, they sort of blurred together, making it a bit difficult to judge AWE on its own merits. Despite its weaknesses, though, I was completely blown away. Should do just as well as DMC, if not better. I'll probably be posting more complete thoughts in my trip report, but I did about ten hours of Pirate stuff today, so I'm pretty wiped out at the moment.

I loved it! Especially the bow to the ride. That was my favorite part. Good job by all cast & crew. Will see it again as I know I missed some stuff. A few unanswered questions or just things I didn't on the first viewing.

Loved it. A great end to an amazing series of films (although it's pretty clear there will be another one).

Yeah it's flawed but for whatever reason these films appeal to me so much that I just don't really care that it's convoluted or silly or whatever. Of course it's convoluted and silly, there are more plot threads to resolve than grains of sand in the desert.

But that's what I love about it - these are BIG movies, epic in scale and scope. There's so much happening that it's amazing a 3-hour movie can feel so urgent and breathless.

I stand by my statement that Davy Jones is the best screen villain since Darth Vader and his storyline in this one was just great.

I thought the movie was great overall! I was completely thrown off by the random tribute to the attraction but I loved it

    I give it 4 stars

I am so disappointed. The numerous sub-stories and mass confusion along with the almost psychotic screenplay killed this movie. There were so many points in this movie where I just covered my face with my hands and shook my head. The visual effects and occaisional witty comments kept this film from completely drowning.

By the way, even with the scene after the credits, I felt no closure in the series.
    I like Disneyland...it's pretty sweet.

I really thought it went too far. I wasn't a big fan. I can handle a certain level of ridiculousness but good vs. evil jack on his shoulder... and other such instances just took away from the film. Those moments seemed extremely out of place for the trilogy.

It did have a lot of laugh out loud funny moments, and it was certainly action packed, but overall I long for the first film.

I enjoyed it partly because I like these characters so much. Geoffrey Rush is amazing and it was great to have him back and nods to the previous two films as well as the ride were welcome... but I give the movie 3 stars out of 5 because I'm feeling generous. It was too Jerry Bruckheimer and not enough Ted and Terry.

Re: Official "POTC: At World's End" Review Thread and Poll

Just got back from tonight's 8:00 p.m. showing. Impressive. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End is a stunning crowd-pleaser that will stifle the critics and break every opening weekend box office record you can imagine.

We arrived at the theater around 6:30, bracing for a big crowd. We had prepurchased our tickets over a week ago, but still anticipated to be herded into a long line. Surprisingly, we were let right into the theater, which already had about 50 people in it. Our 8:00 show was sold out, as was the original midnight show, but, expecting an onslaught, the theater had since added eight additional showings. By the time the previews began, our theater was mostly full with just a handful of empty seats.

About 20 or 30 people came dressed in some sort of pirate garb. Most stayed with simple eyepatches or bandanas, while a few others opted for off the rack halloween-style pirate costumes. One couple went all out, he in a full Jack Sparrow with hat, dreads and eyeliner; she in a fetching Elizabeth Swann pirate outfit, although I don't recall Keira Knightley having blue streaks in her hair. The audience skewed younger, mostly teens and early 20-somethings, with the majority of them female. You think Johnny and Orlando had anything to do with that?

Then the fun really began--and I wasn't disappointed.

Pirates 3, for all its over-the-top spectacle and bombast, grabs you early and doesn't let go. As you no doubt have heard, AWE starts with Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), Elizabeth Swann (Knightley) and Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush, channeling his finest Robert Newton) on a quest to save Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) from the impenetrable depths of Davy Jones Locker. Their search takes them to Singapore, home of the pirate lord Sao Feng (a commanding Chow Yun-Fat), who holds the key to finding and freeing Jack.

What happens afterwards is a trip-wired, jury-rigged series of sword fights, gun battles, double crosses, and nautical mythology that will leave your head spinning. It culminates in an epic ship battle in a roiling maelstrom where the good guys (pirates, of course) do battle with the dark forces of Davy Jones (Bill Nighy) and the East India Trading Company, which is led by the weaselly Cutler Beckett (Tom Hollander) determined to wipe pirates off the face of the earth. Difficult to follow? At times. The crosses and double-crosses continually threaten to collapse on themselves. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to see the movie again to figure out who was trying to cheat who out of what at any given time. Nevertheless, Gore Verbinski directs the unwieldy proceedings with energy, style and good humor, and screenwriters Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio somehow manage to tie up the loose ends and bring the Pirates trilogy to a satisfying conclusion.

Actually, it takes three satisfying conclusions to completely wrap things up, plus a coda after the credits (do NOT leave the theater early) that's a bit cloying, but feels so right.

As the addled Captain Jack, Depp is back in classic form. In Dead Man's Chest, he keep teetering close to parody, but in AWE, he brings back the element of danger that made his fey character so charming and appealing in Curse of the Black Pearl. Depp is an absolute marvel to watch as he (literally) explores multiple sides of Sparrow's character.

Knightley is the epitome of pirate girl power as the plucky and determined Elizabeth. She can captain my ship anytime. The real revelation, though, is Bloom, who adds surprising depth and gravitas to the once painfully noble Will Turner. Will's motives are continually challenged in AWE, as he must choose the pirate life to have any chance of saving his cursed father (Stellan Skarsgard) from Davy Jones and still keep the fair (but increasingly fierce) Elizabeth.

For hardcore POTC fans, there are plenty of inside references to the ride to make you happy. My favorite is a word for word quote by Barbossa (who knew his first name was Hector?) to Elizabeth as they prepare to take the final plunge to find Jack. It made me smile and I was happy to see other members of the audience appreciate it too.

I'll admit to having some reservations about how the movie would turn out. It's going to be too big and too complicated I thought. And actually, it is. But, in spite of the excessiveness, or probably because of it, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End is a winner.

    4 out of 5 stars.

I really, really enjoyed it. I think it totally succeeded in its given category: dessert cinema. 100% nutrition-free entertainment. While no sequel could ever live up to the surprise brilliance of the original, this one at least didn't ever let itself get boring (which was, in my opinion, the main flaw with Dead Man's Chest...though that entry in the series was not entirely without its charms). It's nonstop action and story; and yes, it's pretty complicated, and I'm sure that will make it difficult for some people to enjoy, but overall, it's one heck of a fun ride. I give it a solid 4 out of 5.

Also, on a more trivial note - though Jack Sparrow was and is an incredible addition to the cinematic pantheon...I have to say that Hector Barbossa is pretty much the greatest thing to happen to piracy since Long John Silver.

And, Keith Richards was amazing as Blackbeard from the beloved Wicked Wench! if that AA would ever become flesh it did in this movie! the makeup dept had his look DEAD ON!!!

I never thought Jack would be one of the pirate lords...or his father would be........nope not gonna do it before more people get to see it

and, I actually felt sorry for Davy Jones a few times especially when that single tear fell..I agree Davy Jones is the best bad guy since Darth Vader!!!!

ok last edit..I just cant say enough about this movie! at times you needed a scorecard to keep track of who was double crossing who..all in all a HELL of a fun ride and one that needs to be seen again and again!
