There'll be the typical drop off you get after an opening weekend, but it should still perform well. POTC3 is primed for a lot of repeat viewings.

A lot of people are wondering the same thing, especially with the last installment. Personally, the running time doesn't bother me - if I'm entertained through the whole 2.5-3 hours there's really no problem. That's why Spider-Man 3 fell flat for me. It was too long, and the script wasn't great. It was hard to stay entertained.

Pirates 3, however, kept me hooked through the entire film.

Agreed. The movie had excellent pacing. I never felt it was as long as it was.

im worried that with the dissapointments of POTC II that most will wait for AWE's DVD thinking AWE wont be as good and wont kick down 10 bucks to see it in the theatre.
Which sucks cause AWE was WAY better than DMC. And will definately lose something if not seen not on a big screen.
This was a fabulous movie... I hope the estimates are off.

I can't believe Shrek outdid it. I am sure the total will surpass Shrek's worldwide. People lost interest in it pretty quickly.

I agree completely. AWE never once had me wanting to look at my clock to see how much time was left. As engrossed as we were in the movie, the extra length didn't matter at all. GREAT movie!

It's funny, I never knew there were all these disappointments with Dead Man's Chest. I only found out now, with the release of At World's End that people actually didn't like DMC anywhere close to as much as they liked Curse of the Black Pearl.

Personally, I thought DMC was spectacular, and actually better in many respects than COTBP. I also assumed that with the immense amounts of money the film made that I wasn't alone in my appreciation for the film. Its strange now that I've been reading so many fan reviews of AWE that people actually didn't like DMC as much as I thought they did.

Weird.

As for At World's End - it's my favorite film of the trilogy. It was spectacular. Absolutely fantastic summer movie.

Spiderman 3 and Shrek 3 were both released on weekends with lack of competition.To say Shrek 3 made $50 million in its second weekend of release that surely had to hit Pirates total just a bit for that Weekend.

I think the other factor is all ages can go and see Shrek3 as well as it being shorter. The other two may have beat AWE for opening weekend (a holiday weekend in many countries), but I think it will win the summer take.

? It's only been out for a week.. and it's second week #s were 51mil.. not shabby.

Thank you for saying this, as this was my concern after the major letdown of DMC. I will go out to the theatres to see AWE end, even if I wasn't planning on it before.
