MiceChat.com has learned that six individuals, five guests and one Disney employee were injured at the Kali River Rapids attraction at Disney's Animal Kingdom Park today. Five guests were taken to Celebration Hospital and the Cast Member was transported to Dr. Phillips Hospital.
One of the rides' sensors caused the flumes to stop as it was traveling up a steep incline, which prompted an evacuation at about 10:20 a.m., said Bo Jones, deputy fire chief of the Reedy Creek Improvement District. It is the platform that’s designed to help transfer guests from the ride to the exit stairs that malfunctioned during the evacuation.
Disney spokeswoman Jacquee Polak could not be specific in the details but mentioned that the injuries were not life threatening. She said it was not immediately clear what happened to the Kali River Rapids ride, but somehow it malfunctioned where guests transfer from floats to a walkway.
The attraction will remain closed for the rest of the day while workers investigate the ride according to a park official.
Disney's attention is on the care of the guests and Cast Member as "nothing like this has ever happened," Polak said.
