Ocean's 13? Evan Almighty? When did Hollywood Give Up?

    Seriously, WTF?

Is this the best we can do? This is all the more reason that I turn to indie films or documentaries. Why in the world they make such crap sequels I just cannot understand. The actors should be ashamed to be in such garbage, and the audience also should question their existence.

Like Dennis Miller said many years ago ... now when you go to the movies you look up and try to decide which movie sucks the least.

    Shrek 3
    Pirates 3
    Spiderman 3
    Die Hard 1 billion
    Evan Almighty
    Ocean's 12
    Harry Potter 5
    Another Bourne Movie
    Rush Hour 3
    Fantastic 4 again

Do yourself a favor and go see The Namesake or Once. Excellent movies, both.

I think that there are films that do a great job of having sequels (Harry Potter is a great example) but specifically with Oceans 45, what's the point? Here is the plot:

A bunch of handsome men will try and plot to cheat someone of their money. During the caper, something will go wrong, and the handsome crooks have to sort it out. Throw in a few attractive women, and there you have it, hollywood gold...

Ugh. I know. But you can't always blame the actors. A lot of times they're locked into a contract that says "we'll back you on Little Miss Sunshine, but then you have to do whatever next movie we tell you."

I secretly (oops!) think Evan Almighty looks kinda funny. The rest? Meh.

ETA: There's no way I'm paying $10 to see Evan Almighty, however much I love Steve Carrell, just for the record.

Go see Mr. Brooks, it doesn't fit the format at all. A great movie that is getting lost in sequal mania.

I'm excited to see Ellen Barkin back in the saddle again, I gotta say.

Other than that, I can't wait to see Don Cheadle in Talk to Me.

Good point Susie, I guess if you're in a contract you have to do what you have to do. Sometimes a bad movie is like candy, it is so bad, but you have to do it. I just wish we had more Little Miss Sunshines, and less Crap Part 87

Re: Ocean's 13? Evan Almighty? When did Hollywood Give Up?

I just don't see the point in Ocean's 13, when Ocean's 12 was so horrible. If #2 was bad, why bother making #3. I know it's because those guys sell movie tickets, but come on. Matt Damon in Ocean's 12 vs. Matt Damon in The Departed? No comparison.

I don't have the patience anymore and I LOVE going to the movies, so it makes me sad.

Re: Ocean's 13? Evan Almighty? When did Hollywood Give Up?

I love going to the movies, too, but I generally don't like the summer blockbuster-style movie (unless it's a Harry Potter), so I go to the second-run theaters, pub theaters, and art-house places...I spend less and see way better movies....

Ocean's 12 was SO forgettable. I don't remember a single scene. Not one. We watch Ocean's 11 pretty regularly....it's a go-to movie for my husband and my 12 year old. They watch it. all. the. time.

    Hey Max Fischer,

Does this mean you won't be seeing the Borat sequel?

Considering if I go to the movies more than twice a year these days pretty sums up the current state of Hollywood. 10-15 years ago I was going to the movies all the time. Hollywood has lost all concept of originality.

Re: Ocean's 13? Evan Almighty? When did Hollywood Give Up?

You know this will be an interesting thread if we ALL see the two movies in the topic header and then discuss whether or not they were good or bad... and continue this topic further.

Me personally, Ocean's 12 was entertaining but not memorable. Bruce Almighty was the same.

But they made money, and there's money to be had in making more. So does that mean they'll be bad films? Maybe but let's not run to conclusions yet. So far from people I've spoke to, they said that Evan Almighty is actually a fun movie. But do the trailers do the film justice?

No. I think movie trailers these days have been the worst they've ever been. The trailer for Evan Almighty, for example, gives TOO MUCH. I feel like I've seen the entire movie!

Same goes to the trailer for OCEANS 13... it's stupid! I know I want to see it and I'm most certain that I'll enjoy myself, but my goodness that was one of the most boringest trailers I've ever seen.

No question Hollywood has gone downhill, BUT... are these two movies the actual proof? I think there's far worst out there. But let's all see how these films really are before determining whether or not Hollywood has given up based on these two entries.

Re: Ocean's 13? Evan Almighty? When did Hollywood Give Up?

The Bourne series is from a book trilogy from Robert Ludlum and unless one had the chance to read them and followed all of them it will be hard to follow. I look forward to the last edition.

But I do agree with Max, these other movies are just pocket change for Hollywood.
