What was the question? (One of the differances, if I am not mistaken, is you have equity in the money you spend as a member, because it is partially involved with a time share... So your membership actually gets carried over into your estate...)

I all depends on how many times you use it. With intial cost about $20,000 (estimate) for 200 points and maintenance about (estimate) $1000 per year. You need to got to WDW (or use your timeshare) about 6 or 7 times to break even on the initial cost plus maintence for the first 6 or 7 years (at $3,500 - $4,000) for hotel per visit, then considering maintenance at about $1000 per year, you can (well maybe, maybe not) save about $2,500 per year on hotel.

Hard to justify DVC just doing math. For me buying DVC meant I had to take a vacation each year, so for me it was not only pre-paid hotel but a financial incentive to make sure I take a vacation. Something about paying for vacations like this that just works for me (and many, many others).

DVC is not for everyone. If a person is trying to justify DVC by "doing the math", well, I have yet to hear of anyone who decided on DVC by "doing the math". DVC is not a money saver, even though I may try to fool myself into thinking I'm saving money, I know I'm not, but I am having fun and I might not go to WDW and have the fun if I had not bought DVC, so for me DVC is great and it is convenient and I have never regreted DVC. This way I do not have to save for hotel each year, it is already paid for.

I have also used DVC for Sedona, AZ and Maui, HI and the hotel I stayed at on Maui, well, I don't think I would have paid their daily rate, I most likley would not have stayed there, but with DVC, "What the heck, it was great"

    Just MHO, YMMV

This is one of the reasons why I haven't bought into the DVC... There is not enough of a California benifit for me really to consider it... I really don't have the desire to travel to Florida every year... It would seem to me to be a bit of a waste...

I think as soon as they put in a viable DVC project in California, you will see a change in how people buy on the west coast.

What would be a viable West Coast DVC project in CA?

I sure wouldn't use DVC for DLR. DLR is just not enough of a vacation destination.

Now if they would put a DVC project in San Diego... That would be great!

DVC anywhere in Hawaii, great as well!

But DLR... Oh, well, not my choice, but I know some would like it.

I heard that DVC is just a big gimmick, has too many flaws, and in about 10 years time Disney is going to wish they never started this program in the first place.

    What's the gimmick?

    What are the flaws?

    (just curious)

Why would Disney Wish they never started it? It's a real money maker for them.

    10 years from when?

    From the start of DVC?

    From now?
