Will Disney's Online Fans ever get a Television Channel?

I wonder if the popularity of Disney news and forum sites will ever spawn a television channel dedicated to all things Disney. There could be talk shows, a news program, Interviews, reviews of Disney products. In the future it seems that everything will have its own channel eventually. Is television the next step for Disney Fanatics?

That's what the Disney Channel was like when it first launched in the 80's before it went tween central.
Let's put the Walt back in Disney!

One day we will probably get our channel, but that might be several decades from now. To have a good Disney fan channel, it can't be supported by Disney. If Disney supported it, it would be like all of those Travel channel specials on Walt Disney World.

Well, honestly. What would we have to say on TV that is really THAT interesting that we don't already establish online. Perhaps Al Lutz could have his own show once a week. That way we wouldn't have to wait for his updates. Thats probably the only show I could imagine being successful.

The Disney Channel used to REVOLVE around Disneyland and Disney Parks (eghhh). Disney 365 is a weak attempt compaired to probably a 1+ hour opening special that would have happened if the Disney Channel hadn't died.

Any channel launches or rebrandings that doesn't take place in the next 5 years or so are probably not going to happen. Cable is broadening its focus as on-demand content options emerge. Same goes for DVD releases. While there is certainly enough content to support a network (or hundreds of DVDs) from the Vault Disney pool, there's issues of demand and overhead which may not support it. I honestly think Vault Disney will reemerge in a few years as online content, whether via iTunes or some new subscription service.

You know, we do have a discussion on Vault Disney...

Question: Should Disney Have a "Vault Disney Channel?"

I totally agree with you, It would have to be seperate from the Disney company. I envision things like Hotel and restaurant reviews , cruise and park specials , not like the travel channel ones. Shows like Yesterland exploring the Disney of the past, as well as shows that focus on looking to the news and rumors of Disney's future. Hell we could even have the Techskip hour. There are limitless possiblities and television and the internet are slowly merging together as one, so it would still be highly interactive and would still have the social networking and community feel that we all love. There is already an internet televison service called Joost and these types of services will only become more popular in the future. I also think that a televison aspect would bring more Disney fans into the online community and that the Disney Company would feel more pressure to give guests the quality product they desrve.

Well I guess nobody is interested in this idea, but mark my words something like this will come along someday. I wouldnt be surprised if there were a channel dedicated to thimble collecting.

But wait! I've just uncovered a top secret internal Disney Company memo, which I share with you for the first time today!

RE: New channel launch weekday schedule

Here's the launch schedule you requested. Since the internet community is the target audience, we're going with the second slate option we discussed. We want to stick with the name "MiceChannel," although we're still waiting for final clearances.

This is the M-F weekday schedule - the team is meeting next week to plot out some potential weekends. Everthing should be in place for the launch on 4/1/08!

    Have a Magical Day,
    XXXXXXXXXX

    ---------------------------------------------------------

    MiceChannel Weekday Schedule

    2:00AM - 6:00AM • DSN (The Disney Shopping Network)
Vapid, smiling hosts sell various high-end collectibles, surplus souvenirs, and leftovers ("The next item is a Genuine Piece of Floor Tile from the remodel of the Alice in Wonderland bathrooms! This is an actual piece of Disneyland, folks...").
Plus special guests! Don't miss the Joe Rohde Earring Collection!

    6:00 - 8:00AM • Grampa's TeeVee Room
Good morning, Seniors! Scoot the barcalounger up to the screen (but not too close, or you'll burn out your eyes!) and stroll down memory lane with episodes of the Mickey Mouse Club (yes, the original, what did you think?), and after that, it's Walt himself hosting Disneyland (You heard me. No "Wonderful World" of anything, you whippersnapper!). What tomfoolery will that Spin and Marty get up to this week?

8:00 - 9:00AM • The Black and White Adventure Hour
Alternating episodes of Davy Crockett and The Adventures of Zorro! (Hey, are those Latinos playing Indians? Then why is a white Guy playing a Latino?) Since there were only five original Davy Crockett episodes, we've de-colorized and included the shows from the late '80's. We'll also include The Nine Lives of Elfego Baca as soon as we can say "Elfego" without snickering.

    9:00 - 10:00AM • Cancelled Sitcom Time
This is the place for Sister, Sister, Even Stevens, Lizzie McGuire and The Famous Jett Jackson.
Coming soon: Phil of the Future and That's So Raven!

    10:00 - 11:00AM • DisneyGeekTV
Every behind-the-scenes, secret revealing, backstage-showing piece of tape we can find! If it's a how-to, making of, documentary or sales presentation, we'll show it. If it's bad show or takes away the magic, look for it here! Utterly useless trivia guaranteed! First up: That special you've seen 128 times where Imagineers in shirts and ties are preparing the Pirates of the Caribbean! (Except for that one gal who's in a dress, of course - she does hairstyling and ironing, I think, plus getting us guys coffee!)

    11:00 - 12:00PM • Walkin' Around The Parks
Just what it says. A guy walks around Disneyland and WDW with a camcorder. Sometimes you hear him cough. That's it. (Why? Because on MiceChannel, this gets ratings. HUGE ratings. You people are freaks.)

    12:00 - 2:00PM • Lunch In The '80's
First, it's the New Mickey Mouse Club, with Blair from The Facts of Life! After that, it's Kids Incorporated with Fergie from the Black-Eyed Peas! Then, enjoy specials featuring 80's favorites like Videopolis and Roger Rabbit (He was going to be so BIG, remember?). Have a totally 80's flashback with the Sing-Along Songs episode "Disneyland Fun" (Oh, so much pink clothing and big hair)!

    2:00PM - 4:00PM • The Disney Afternoon
Relive those afterschool funtimes with low-quality cartoons from the early '90's! Darkwing Duck, Goof Troop, Chip 'N Dale's Rescue Rangers, Gummi Bears, and other vaguely-remembered shows are back with their original intent: to kill a couple of hours on the schedule!

    4:00PM - 5:00PM • MMC
The animation block not enough? Then REALLY immerse yourself in 10-year-old nostalgia with the All New Mickey Mouse Club from the '90's! Britney! Justin! Christina! Wacky sketch comedy! Emerald Cove!!!

5:00 - 6:00PM • The Wonderful World of Travel with Alain Littaye
Alain smirks at you with pity as he shows you DLP, Tokyo DisneySea, HKDL, and other places you probably won't be able to afford to go. This week: all the locations Imagineers have gone to for "research".

    6:00 - 7:00PM • Disney News
With anchors David Koenig and Sue Kruse

    7:00 - 8:00PM • The Al Lutz Show
Postponed until tomorrow. Or the next day. We'll air it when we have something to air, OK?!?

    8:00 - 10:00PM • Disney Evening Movie
Not the classics, you understand, but all those other ones. Pretty much anything with Tommy Kirk, Don Knotts, Dean Jones or Kurt Russell in them. Or any live-action talking animals.

    10 - 10:30PM • Hear Yee, Hear Yee
Join host Kevin Yee as he takes a little tiny flashlight and shows us the undersides of things that aren't painted. Then stay tuned for Kevin's weekly segment, "For Heaven's Sake, Don't Eat There!"

    10:30 - 11:00PM • Oh, That Walt!
A brand new Original MiceChannel Series, Oh, That Walt! is about a normal suburban family whose lives are turned upside-down when a famous, powerful billionaire entertainment mogul loses it all and has to move in with them! Best of all, the series stars Walt Disney as himself. It's true - by using every bit of film and tape ever shot of Walt, combining it with state-of-the-art special effects, the most advanced Disney audio-animatronic ever designed (newly created from a lifecast taken of Walt's frozen head), and digital motion capture work done with actor Andy Serkis, this show features new dialog and action with Walt Disney.
In the first episode, it's 1968, so oldest daughter Christy (Christy Carlson Romano) wants to dress like a "hippy," but Uncle Walt encourages a more clean-cut look!

    11- 12:00AM • Disney Made That?
Showcasing unlikely stories, characters, and just plain odd decisions.
This week: That topless frame in The Rescuers, and pretty much everything about Jessica Rabbit. Plus, viewers respond to our "Uncle Remus" segment. (Recommended for mature viewers.)

    12:00 - 2:00AM • The Late Late Show
Welcome, sleepless mortals! It's the movies so bad, they're scary. Look for Tower of Terror in heavy rotation, as well as the Halloweentown sequels. Also The Haunted Mansion, Treasure Planet, Blackbeard's Ghost, and The Black Hole. Oh, and the Love Bug remake (*shiver*).

Re: Will Disney's Online Fans ever get a Television Channel?

I personally miss the ol' dateline disney. I also think it would be cool to on occasion run the opening day of the different theme parks. Maybe a disney shopping network (late night) would not be bad. Just some thoughts
