The Simpsons Movie- Mice Chat Reviews

I just got back from the midnite showing and it was absolutely brillant, and is the second best movie this summer (behind Ratatouille) and the third best movie of the year and I have seen a lot of movies this year (average of about 1 a week). I have been a Simspons fan for a very very long time and seeing the TV characters I have been growing up with since the age of 4 or 5 (I am now 21) on the big screen in their long talked about movie was quite a surreal and awesome experience. This movie is extremely funny and very intelligent. I wished it was longer though. Stay all the way through the credits.

    5/5 from me.

    A spoiler:
    Spoiler
Who would've thought Darth Vader is really Luke Skywalker's father!

Oh wait a minute, that was in an episode.

I really enjoyed the movie, and I was laughing through most of it, and I even applauded a number of times when they had a particularly good gag. They didn't take it too seriously or try to do something different because it was on the big screen and actually get self-referential at times. There are a lot of individual bits/gags, and there's of course a story that tries to tie everything together, but the story itself isn't really what the movie is about. There are a couple of side stories that were really sweet.

    Spoiler
The relationship that develops between Bart and Ned Flanders makes sense, and it was cute to see a different side of Bart. The hot cocoa scene was awesome. And the whole storyline with Lisa and her new Irish boyfriend was cute too.

There's one particular scene that will probably be the most talked about, which is why I find it even more annoying that two reviews I've read mention the bit in their review - BOO to them for giving away a major spoiler.

    Spoiler
When Bart is skateboarding naked through town, they throw every manner of obstacle to block his private parts, even things that make almost no sense, but it's hysterical along the way - which is what makes the payoff when they actually show *everything* even funnier. It's not a plot point or anything, but it's a great bit.

There are bits that go a bit slowly, but they don't last too long, and the rest of the movie definitely makes up for it. The movie reminded me of "Airplane" in the sense that I missed lines here and there because we were still laughing from the previous line, so I guess that's the reason to see it more than once. And there are a lot of background things to look at that are funny too. There is also one point that will be very satisfying for long-time fans.

This is really more of a technical point, but I'll put it in spoiler tags anyway.

    Spoiler
Even though there's a regular cast crawl later in the credits, I love that the beginning of the credits show the actor's name and then a picture of each character that the actor voices. Showing it visually that way gives you much more of an appreciation for how much some of them do for the film.

And for those who leave as soon as the credits start - don't.

    There are two Disney connections.

    Spoiler
They unsurprisingly skewered Disney in one scene where Bart has a black bra on his head and says, "Look, I'm the mascot of an evil empire." And then, one of the voices in the film is that of Russi Taylor, better known as the voice of Minnie Mouse!

I thought the movie was great. An excellent idea, and was pulled off very nicely. It was like the golden age of the Simpsons all over again.

The one gripe, if I had any, would be the lack of supporting characters. This really was a family focused movie, which I can understand, but there just didn't seem like there was enough time to see our beloved townspeople.

All in all. I loved it. Worth seeing. And I will be seeing it again. And Again. And buying the DVD.

I just came back from the movie. Definatly one of the best movies all summer. I was laughing probably 90% of the time. And it got really sad at parts.

I give it a 5 easy. I was hoping Mr. Burns would have been in it more though, he is great.

One of the best lines I've ever heard, "Look, I'm the mascot of an evil corporation"

As I said to some people. That this was the last movie I am going to see for this summer and one major thing I can say is, that they sure saved the best for last to me.

    Spoiler
I so much loved The Simpsons Movie. I would had loved to go back in line to it see one more time. It was so cleverly hilarious to me. Non-stop laughter.

The Simpsons crew did a wonderful job and I would like to tell my brother Dylan to go see it. He would love it too.

We saw it in the theater. We're such losers, when we could have waited and seen it on TV (eventually!)

    Our favorite line:

    Spoiler
If you shake it more than twice, you're playing with it.

We literally rode home singing "Spider Pig" all the way. It's one of the funniest movies we've seen in a long time, and loved the layer upon layer of different things in this movie. It was a treat for the eyes.

I will not illegally download this movie.

I wonder what the people at Cargill think about it? "You're mad with power!" "Ever try to go mad without power?"

It was a pretty funny movie. This has to be the part I laughed at the most:

    Spoiler
Flanders: I have something to confess.
Homer: (Fingers crossed) Gay, gay, gay, gay.

I also laughed at all the parts with Ralph: with the intro, his comment when Bart skated naked past him, and the thing with the bubbles.

I'd recommend this movie to anyone searching for a laugh (ok a lot of laughs).

What in the movie makes it PG-13? And is there anything that is so above and beyond that they show on the TV show that it would be unnaceptable for kids that watch the show?

And there is one curse that I remember, not sure if that would throw it up to PG-13 though, but Hayley's point definitely would.

I also recall a displaying of extended middle fingers--which might not be appropriate for some youngsters of a certain age.

There's a third Disney connection, to Sleeping Beauty, as well...

    Yes, that one too.

Speaking of Disney. Did you catch that part with Bart hanging upside down on the train when he used a black bra for mouse ears? That one wasn't super bad. That was normal Bart foolin around. But I *lol* at that one.
