The Bad Girl Backlash: Are Good Girls In Style Again?

"I'm a good kid. I've been brought up with very good morals, and I'm not going to go out and do something I don't want other kids to do."

    Vanessa Hudgens
"I'm not going to get blind drunk and then stumble out and fall over an puke up in front of people. I'm not saying I don't do that in private, but I try not to."

    Keira Knightley
They're the anti-Britneys and the post-Parises. CBS News calls them the "Girls Gone Mild." After a summer of public celebrity meltdowns, DUI's and rehab visits that have been reported ad nauseum, the good girls are finally getting their due. And when you consider one of the biggest media sensations of late is about a bunch of squeaky-clean high schoolers from New Mexico, the good boys are joining in as well.

Miley Cyrus's parents still make her do her homework and finish her chores. Aly & AJ speak openly about their Christian beliefs. Scarlett Johannson claims her only vice is Swiss cheese.

Do you think the press and public have had their fill of "bad girl" stories for a while? Have the good girls been ignored, or is a private life kept private just not interesting? Isn't it about time we had some good celebrity news for a change?

    Your thoughts?

I sure hope so!! I'm so sick of hearing about these girls that are intent on ruining their futures! I want to see some positive female role models again!

    My best score ever!

I hope this is the way the trend is going.

The other day, my Dad, two brothers and I were sitting and eating lunch at Village Haus and all of a sudden he starts going on about Britney and that whole crowd. Those girls simply have too much money for their own good. It's sad to see them throwing their lives away, but we have no sympathy for them. I don't think the press is done with them by any means, but I think that the public is getting sick of them. Adults don't want their children looking up to these girls but rather looking up to girls (if any), like Miley, who are both talented and have a great head on their shoulders. (I know my pre-schoolers/kinders LOVE her.)

I think our Dad was relieved to hear that we pretty much don't take an interest in them at all. We do take interest in those like the ones you mentioned, especially Keira Knightley which he didn't seem to mind at all. Haha.

Until MTV puts bad girls out of style the concept isn't going away, sadly.

Good girls were never out of style. Out of the spotlight maybe, but we've always been around. It's nice though that someone noticed that good girls are better than bad girls.

And don't forget Mandy Moore. She's shown lots of Good Girl tendencies.

Unfortunately the "Good Girl" stories don't get the ratings or sell magazines. So we will sadly still be seeing Britney and Lindsay invading our lives. Sadly.

We'll see. MTV's ratings continue to drop while the Disney Channel's audience is soaring. Coincidence?
