    Mandy Patinkin and Patti Lupone

Back in 2002, we went to see Mandy Patinkin in concert, and it was a great show. (Here's a link to my review of the show: http://www.colddeadfish.net/entertai...kinreview.html.) He had mentioned possibly doing a tour with Patti Lupone (with whom he worked on "Evita") in a kind of history of musical theatre, and it sounded like it would be an amazing show. Shortly thereafter, Mandy landed the lead in the TV show "Criminal Minds", so we knew no tour would be happening. Ever since it was announced recently that he had left the show, I'd thought to look into his tour schedule to see what was happening.

    JACKPOT!

They *are* apparently doing such a tour. I found a theatre in Palm Desert, CA where they're doing the show for two nights - January 18 and 19, 2008. Here's a link: http://www.mccallumtheatre.com/show_details.php?id=18. They don't have any info about the show on that site, but frankly, we didn't care - Mandy and Patti on the same stage together - we're so there.

They're also doing a week's engagement in a theatre in Philadelphia this October, and this listing tells you something about the show: http://www.princemusictheater.org/ho...kin&tickets=no.

I'm so excited to see them!

Wow that would be awesome! Wish I could go!
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

Patti Lupone is AMAZING in concert. Only performer I've ever seen go to 5 encores at the Hollywood Bowl.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

Oh, you need to listen to the original stage version of "Evita" with Mandy and Patti. They're incredible. You really follow the development of the story with Mandy's character, Che. It was his Broadway debut, and he won a Tony for it.

And then listen to the movie soundtrack of the project. Antonio Banderas didn't suck as much as I expected him to, but he pales in comparison to Mandy. Antonio is decent at belting, but you can't belt your way through the entire show, and you don't get at all why Che's perception changes during the course of the show.
