On September 6th, I took off from work early and trekked over to the El Capitan for the premiere of the new digitally restored version of The Jungle Book. It was rather early in the afternoon for a premiere, which meant fighting heavy Hollywood traffic, but I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.
I walked right in and was immediately greeted by my old pal Baloo!
And some original production cels from the film!
As I sat down, some familiar music was playing through the theatre.
And then the Panel began, hosted by the one and only Don Hahn. It began with a bang as they showed footage of Phil Harris singing The Bare Necessities.
The panel continued with anecdotes and stories from Bruce Reitherman (Mowgli, who is also the son of Jungle Book director Wolfgang Reitherman), Darleen Carr (The singing voice for Shanti), the rockin’ Chad Stuart (voice of Flaps the vulture) and Disney Legend Songwriter Richard Sherman.
After the panel ended, Chad Stuart graced us with some music.
And we ended with yet another Bang and major treat for any Disney Geek, as Richard Sherman played favorites from Mary Poppins, Winnie The Pooh, The Jungle Book and finished off with everyone’s favorite “It’s A Small World”!
And as Don Hahn introduced the film… there was a mishap! OH NO! Something was wrong with the digital image… so we sat and waited in front of a blank screen…
Finally, after the disaster had been resolved, Don Hahn came back out to reintroduce the film.
After a wonderful film, I went over to the Soda Fountain to see what they had in store:
And as I made my way back to my car, I caught a glimpse of what’s in store in the El Capitan in late November!
*Can’t wait for that Disney Enchanted Experience with all the Disney Princesses’!*
