    Re: Across The Universe

Unfortunately, not opened here yet... we're not getting it until October 5, apparently.

However, I have listened to the soundtrack. I'm not caring for some of the tracks -- I guess I'm more enjoying the ones that stay a little more faithful to the original. Believe me -- I'm not one that says that a cover needs to stay faithful (I loved Moulin Rouge). I just don't care for the ones that went to far from the original (vocals, I think, is causing it). They may grow on me a bit more once I see the film and can put them into context.

I saw it at Tustin Marketplace last night and it was in a small theater which I thought was weird isn't it a new release? Hardly anyone was there, did spot Fishbulb and Dusty there though haha what a coincidence.
It was small because it was an Independent film which usually doesn't bring in as many people as a blockbuster would.

I thought it started out kinda sketchy but picked up around the "I've Just Seen a Face" number. Overall I liked it but it's probably not for everyone.

I didn't get into it until the "I Want You/She's So Heavy" sequence. It's an interesting picture, when it works it's stunning, but overall it didn't do it for me.

I didn't dislike it though, and I'd recommend it. The movie's just OK.

    Re: Across The Universe

It was good but not great

    Pros: Beautiful music and visuals
Cons:A few songs were bad, and I couldn't tell exactly if they were implying one of the characters were a lesbian, be that the case, she seemed like she was only in the movie to add a touch of non-conformity.

    4 out of 5

Also for those who go, I hope you get a fun theater; no one in the theater I was at got any of the jokes.

I really liked this movie. Had that Forest Gump feel with good music and Vietnam war footage. My aunt came back from vacation and just her and I went after work.

I thought it was great, I just love Julie's visual style.
The most touching moment for me was when the little boy started singing Let it Be. I wept through that entire scene.

I've heard this film is kind of like Moulin Rouge.... either you love it or you hate it. I want to see it but I'll just wait for the DVD. I have heard from, several people though that the scenes with Bono & Eddie Izzard are the best.

    Re: Across The Universe

I put in my vote at 3 stars. I think it's a great concept but a lot of it needed more polish. I like the two leads but the side characters kinda bugged. Max eventually grew on me but I still don't think he lived up to his full potential.

The great scenes were too far in between. The army recruiting scene was great and so was Mr. Kite. But everything else was fairly run of the mill. I think if the entire movie was more whimsical or imaginative.... it would work better for me.
