WASHINGTON - The House of Representatives today sent its own 50th-anniversary congratulations to Disneyland.
A resolution, authored by Rep. Loretta Sanchez and unanimously passed by the House, celebrates Walt Disney’s contribution to the country and congratulates "Disneyland, ‘the Happiest Place on Earth,’ on the occasion of its 50th anniversary."
The resolution paid special tribute to Mickey Mouse, noted Disney’s 32 Academy Awards and the fact that his "special brand of entertainment’’ graced the 1964 New York World’s Fair.
Speaking on the House floor, Sanchez, D-Santa Ana, called Disney "the treasure of the 47th Congressional District of California, and it is a national treasure. Its doors first opened 50 years ago, on July 17, 1955.
