A teenage girl approached Marty Sklar at Disneyland recently to ask for direction: How can I become an Imagineer?
"Learn a lot about a lot of things," Sklar said. "You'll find something you're good at doing, but never stop learning."
That advice comes from 50 years of experience. Sklar, now vice chairman of Walt Disney Imagineering, started at Disneyland before it opened in 1955 and worked for many years as Walt's speechwriter.
Part of his job now is identifying new talent: architects, engineers, graphic designers, sculptors and more. Some with college degrees, some with skills in practical arts.
