Shortly after moving to California from Tucson, Ariz., I realized my childhood dream of riding Space Mountain whenever I wanted.

After a stressful day at work, I'd zip up the Santa Ana (I-5) Freeway, whiz through the ride's darkness and scream my head off - the perfect way to let off steam and avoid yelling at co-workers.

For more than two years, I've had to find other ways to relieve tension as Disneyland refurbished the ride, which officially opened Friday as part of the amusement park's 50th anniversary celebration. The roller coaster has been unofficially open since the Fourth of July weekend.
