    Question Las Vegas becomming musical?

Anyone notice how Las Vegas has been getting some broadway type shows into some of it's resorts... Avenue Q is moving in, their is a new rumor of when Bluemen group move to the Venetial that the Luxor might be housing Hairspray....

Can Lasvegas be chanigng again from adult to family back to adult and now adult/broadway?? (at least it isn't yet another circus show.... thought luxor already has one i think..)

I believe Cirque Du Solei will be adapting The Beatles Yellow Submarine musical production for one of the hotels in sin city...
Adult Broadway... what a funny idea. Nude women running about spouting songs of true love and star encrusted dreams...

Yeah and I heard that they are going to condense the 2+ glorious hours of Phantom into a 90 minute show... which means a lot of the show is going to get cut to fit it into that time constraint.

The Queen musical "We Will Rock You" is also going the Vegas route instead of Broadway. Having recently gotten to hear the recording of that show I don't blame them. I think it would be a major flop in NYC, but it just might play well in the Vegas setting.

Well, I'm a Phantom fan, so I'll go in and see that. Supposedly ALW himself chose what to cut.

It's definietely becomming more musical with the A+ quality street show "Sirens of TI." God, I think that show took at least 10 years off my life.

I'm a Phantom fan too, and there's no doubt that I'm gonna see it, it's just I like the entire show, the thought of any part of it being cut is sad to me, but maybe I will be proved wrong. We'll just have to see...

It's been done, technically... believe it was called "Naked Guys Singing."

Not sure if it ever made it to broadway, but it's at least made it rather closeby -- think I saw something about it performed at RKO Radio City Music Hall.

Hairspray and Phantom are set for Vegas, with Hairspray opening as soon as this fall, Phantom in 2006. Both will be condensed to 90 minutes, however Phantom will be a new Phantom. The production will cost upwards of $20 million and feature an on-stage lake and several new spectacular elements. I have a friend who's involved and she can't stop raving about it.

Naked Boys Singing is still running in the Village. shudder

I'm eagerly awaiting the new Phantom (should be interesting if nothing else). This is the first that I've heard of Avenue Q though, another excuse for me to make the 8 hour road trip!

If the Disney/Luxor were smart, they'd put Aida there. It's closer theming than Hairspray; and, really, does Vegas have to be all about getting wasted and having permiscuous sex? I think not.

In case anyone hasn't heard, Avenue Q is going into the new Wynn resort set to open this year across from Fashion Show Mall on the site of the old Desert Inn.
We Will Rock You has been running for a few months already at the Paris Resort and is mildly successful.
Adding to the rumors, there is one that I heard first-hand when I was working on Movin' Out back in the fall and that is, when this current tour of Movin' Out ends this June, the show will close, restructure, and reopen at the Las Vegas Hilton sometime in 2006. That show won't even have to be shortened as it is already barely 90 minutes long, which is believed to be the optimum length for Vegas audiences. Don't wanna keep them out of those casinos for too long, after all.
Let us not forget, however, that Chicago and Notre Dame De Paris both closed after 6-month runs in Vegas. Broadway on the Strip is still in it's youth. None of the shows have yet proven to be as big winners as any of the Cirque shows. Time will tell.
