    'The Simpsons'

Twelve animated and CG-created pics took their first step in the Oscar race Thursday as they were submitted for best animated feature.

Among the films submitted for consideration are "The Simpsons' Movie," "Alvin and the Chipmunks,""Ratatouille," "Meet the Robinsons," "Surf's Up," "TMNT," "Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters,""Shrek the Third" and "Bee Movie."

Also among those who were submitted is animation hybrid "Beowulf" which features live-action film mixed with CG tones. Adding international flare to the race is France's "Persepolis" and Japan's "Tekkonkinkreet."

"Alvin," "Persepolis" and "Beowulf" were submitted but still need their required qualifying run in Los Angeles.

Of the 12 entries, three will be chosen for the Oscar race. In order to have five nominees, 16 or more films must be submitted.

The Oscar nominations will be announced on Jan. 22.

As swell as some of those other entries are, Ratatouille is miles ahead of the others, artistically speaking. Cutting edge technology, well designed characters, fully engaging storyline. If it doesnt win, there is something seriously wrong with the way people vote.

Then again, Sabrina got voted off Dancing with the stars, didnt she. Hmmm.

Which one of those films was the most preachy? That's the one that will win.

Best Original Score would also be a category to campaign for.

And there is always this interesting option:
Also, the possibility that "Ratatouille" also could land a best picture nomination -- it would be the second animated film to pull off the feat after 1991's "Beauty and the Beast" -- could ding its prospects in the animation category.

I am one that feels the nomination would be well deserved.

First, Ratatouille was by far the best animated film this year by far, and a nom for best picture is truly deserved. I hope Remy knocks' em dead at The Oscars.

Second, How can they actually even think about qualifying Alvin and the Chipmunks? That movie looks beyond hope.

I am rooting for Rataouille hands down. I think it deserves a nod for best picture, best orignial score, and/or best animated feature. It surely deserves the animated award because it is hands down, the best animated film. It also stands lightyears above some of the junk that studios have been pumping out this year, so a best picture nod would be even more wonderful. I can't see the Academy actually awarding it best picture. Actors and Hollywood types would declare it heracy to acutally give an animated feature best picture. I sure as hope they do because it deserves it after what they did to Beauty and the Beast. Ratatouille is prime movie making- animated or not. I hope it recieves these awards.
