Tim Burton to Direct Live Action/Motion-Capture Alice in Wonderland

I think OogieBoogie called this one...

    Variety:

Burton, Disney team on 3D films
Director pairs with studio on duo
    By MARC GRASER

    Tim Burton

Tim Burton is pairing up with Disney to direct two 3-D pics, "Alice in Wonderland" and "Frankenweenie."

Two-movie deal with Walt Disney Studios begins with "Alice in Wonderland," which will combine performance-capture imagery, currently seen in "Beowulf," with live-action footage.
Script by Linda Woolverton ("The Lion King," "Beauty and the Beast") is based on the Lewis Carroll classic.
Richard Zanuck, Joe Roth and Suzanne and Jennifer Todd will produce.
Burton, who is wrapping "Sweeney Todd" at Paramount and DreamWorks, will tackle "Alice in Wonderland" early next year, with production set to wrap by May.
After "Alice," Burton will helm and produce "Frankenweenie," based on his 1984 short film about a pet dog brought back to life by his loyal owner. Pic will be shot in stop-motion animation and shown in digital 3-D.
Movies are part of the Mouse House's efforts to ramp up its 3-D pic offerings, after starting with "Chicken Little" in 2005, followed by "Meet the Robinsons" and a re-release of "The Nightmare Before Christmas" in 3-D.
"When the script came to us from Joe Roth, there was one name on my list and it was Tim," said Oren Aviv, prexy of Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group. "It felt like a project that needed someone with a unique vision and voice to really give it that special look and memorable characters that only Tim Burton can do." Burton had previously produced "Nightmare Before Christmas" and helmed "Ed Wood" at Disney.

"I'm not a literary person. As far as realism is concerned, you can find dirt anyplace you look for it. I'm one of those optimists. There's always a rainbow." - Walt Disney

"I don't care about critics. Critics take themselves too seriously. They think the only way to be noticed and to be the smart guy is to pick and find fault with things. It's the public I'm making pictures for." - Walt Disney

Didn't we have a fantasy casting game in the fun and games section of the boards about Alice in Wonderland?

LOVE Frankenweenie, can't wait to see it done as a full-length movie.

Yes, I read about this at Wiki before. About this might be a future project for Tim Burton.

Would this mean more music by Danny Elfman? I hope so!

I'm more excited about the animated (Stop Motion) feature length Frankenweenie! That short was brilliant.

I think these should be different enough to still be interesting. I get what your saying though. Both have a darker style and a tendency to twist the story a bit. Mcgee's story is of a broken wonderland whereas the Burton film sounds like its sticking to the original story a bit more. Looking forward to both.

I had a feeling Tim would end up doing Alice in Wonderland, I will be very eager to see it along with Frankenweenie since that was a great short film!

As for American Mcgee's Alice, I really don't see a problem with it since Mcgee's version is probably going to be way more Adult then Tim Burtons.
Disney and Universal fan for life!...Shocking ain't it?
