lol... This was mainly on Pirelli and Judge Turpin. When Pirelli first shows up, the audience all started giggling.

There is a DVD available (Borders.com) of a production done for PBS that features Angela Lansbury (the original Mrs Lovett). It is a filmed version of the stage play that was filmed in the late seventies /early eighties. It's a good replacement if you don't want to spend the money on a ticket or there isn't a production near you. It suffers a little bit because some of the stage make-up seems overdone when put on camera, but is overall really well done.

I'm surprised that Sascha Baron Cohen wasn't nominated for supporting actor - by many reviews in major papers, he almost stole the show - Alan Rickman also - but Sascha has been given such high marks that reviewers are saying he is in very high demand in Hollywood

The movie opens this Friday, December 21...

My wife loves Tim Burton movies. I liked the Nightmare Before Christmas.

I bought the new book that is out that tells the tale through the reprinting of a "serial" than ran in newspapers of the mid-19th Century.

I'll be sitting in an aisle seat. I much prefer psychological thrillers to slasher movies, but for Depp and all the other reasons I'm compelled to see this one. But it sure sounds like there is a lot of blood...
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Did anyone catch the Sweeney Todd special on LOGO tonight?

VERY COOL! I CAN'T WAIT FOR FRIDAY!

Man...it seems like half the cast of Harry Potter is in this film. And no officially "trained" singers? Wow.

    Who knew Snape could sing?

Ok........now I REALLY have a question: How can you "rate" a film that you haven't seen yet? LOL

    Re: Sweeney Todd - Reviews

I saw this last night and loved it. I feel that this is probably the best thing that Tim Burton has done to date. Even today, the film is still with me. Perfect casting, fantastic visual style, most of the film is very monochrome and some scenes are almost black and white. It is shot mostly in close-up or two shots which really helps to maintain the tension. Depp gives another great performance. This guy is dangerously insane, especially after he vows to take his revenge out on everybody. I never got the feeling that Helena Bonham Carter's Mrs. Lovett was crazy but just plain amoral. She will do anything to keep Mr. Todd near her. Unfortuneatly, I think the film will tank at the box office. It's just too good of an art film to appeal to the masses. I really hope I am proved wrong.

The movie, on paper, will tank at the box office for several reasons:
    1) It's R-Rated
    2) It's releasing in during the holidays
    3) It's a musical

Granted, the studio has done about everything it can through previews to cover up the fact that it's a full blown musical, but still.

The association of Depp and Burton and some of the other cast may redeem it somewhat, though.

I don't really think the studio is trying to cover up that it's a full blown musical!
The fact that it's "bloody", maybe. Then, again, I agree that it may tank at the box office. But you have to look at the number of movies that tanked, at the box office. It will, if this holds true, make a "killing" (pardon the pun) in DVD sales!

Yep. It IS amazing, the number of "Harry Potter" castmembers are in this movie....then, again, those of us, who like the 'Harry Potter' Series, will be more "attuned" to them! I can't wait, myself, to hear Alan Rickman sing! I still can't wait to see this movie! It probably won't be until next week, though. Maybe on Thursday (when my hubbie is off work!)
